Publisher's summary

They were the young ones, the bright ones, the ones with the dreams. From the Nazi-prowled wastes of North Africa to the bloody corridors of Europe, they honorably answered the call. War - it was their duty, their job, their life. They marched off as boys and they came back - those who made it - as soldiers and professionals forged in the heat of battle....

Really good "read"

I was drawn in by the story right away and stayed engaged, not ready to have it end. Character development was excellent and I felt like I knew, and cared about, these people. Believable. Entertaining.

Finally!!

What did you love best about The Lieutenants?

This is a series that is about life in the military, but has super character development. I've read the entire series several times and still enjoy going back. Listening to the performance is a differenet experience.

What other book might you compare The Lieutenants to and why?

The only other series of books following a set of characters that compares is Tom Clancy's

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I use the recording of the book to escape during excercise, yard work, etc. so I don't do it all in one sitting.

Any additional comments?

Great series....hopefully the others in this series will be available soon!!!!!

A great read.

I read this series when it first came out in print and enjoyed them. a few years later I enjoyed them again through Audible.
I wish they would of been sold as a set at a discounted price.
I would recommend this series to all.

Good story, painful pronounciation

This is another good read from W E B Griffin, who can be relied on to tell a good military themed tale. Interesting characters and several
Good story threads. What was disappointing was the narrator's lack the of understanding of how to pronounce German words, to a degree that was painful for anyone who knows the language even a little.

Starts slow but build and builds into brilliance

I found that it took a while for me to get into this but as it built and stories and characters developed I really got into it it. In fact, I finished the second half in two days. Will definitely get the next one in the series with so many characters to like.

Great story...

...but does anyone listen before it is released? Or is the producer as much of a dunce as the narrator? Did W.E.B. Griffin hear it? What does he think? As an ex G.I. stationed in Germany and Europe for 10 years the constant mispronunciation of every single German word is quite annoying. The words were not pronounced the way Germans say them NOR the way Americans say them. Just annoying, didn't ruin a great book though.

Great Series

Loved this book when I read over 25 yrsago. Can especially enjoy in now that I am retired from the military and understand so much more. Book I well written and the narrator does a great job with bringing depth with his voice to all the characters. Can't wait to listen to the rest of the series.
