Publisher's summary

They were the young ones, the bright ones, the ones with the dreams. From the Nazi-prowled wastes of North Africa to the bloody corridors of Europe, they honorably answered the call. War - it was their duty, their job, their life. They marched off as boys and they came back - those who made it - as soldiers and professionals forged in the heat of battle....

Integrates lives and careers

Pleasant and realistic. Ordinary lives mixed with extraordinary ones. Accurate historical markers and events bring the narrative to life. I was sorry that it ended.

I beg you, have a narrator who can pronounce German

Best book series ever, completely ruined by the absolute worst German pronunciation. Where is the quality control on this one. My ears are bleeding from his mangling of the many German words and place names. Oh yes, a German accent should never sounds like a Russian accent. Not asking for a native German speaker, but holy cow... Just awful.

An exciting Series begins!

What did you love best about The Lieutenants?

I thought the story while starting a bit slow brought you in with interesting characters, historically accurate plot lines and action that would make even the most cynical of the war genre happy.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

I found the plotline remarkable. I wanted to know not only how these amazing people where doing what they were doing, but why. Griffin never disappointed.

What about Eric G. Dove’s performance did you like?

Mr. Dove is a talent! His character's were real. I found his accents remarkable and loved how he was able to capture not only the mood of the character, but their backstory with just an accent.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

The Lieutenants: A brotherhood of honor

The first of many masterpieces

Sadly, Mr. Butterworth’s organization puts too little importance to finding a narrator whose familiarity with the relevant languages included in the text allows consistent, correct pronunciation of names, place names, etc. The result is distracting to the point of annoyance, and detracts from the audiobook experience. It is unworthy of the artistry of Mr. Butterworth’s writing, plot and character development.

Why change things

Where does The Lieutenants rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Always loved his books whether in book or audio form. His books always rank high up there...

Who was your favorite character and why?

Always a big fan of Craig Lowell..

Which scene was your favorite?

The whole book, if that can be considered a scene.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

World War II story at it's best

Any additional comments?

I have read everyone of his books more times than I can count and some how there are subtle changes in a few parts of the story. That is the only thing I didn't like about this book in audio form otherwise as always this was a great book and a great story....
