What the Critics Say

"Turow once again proves that there is more substance in a single page of one of his novels than in the entire works of John Grisham or any other author in the legal thriller genre." (Library Journal)

If I follow you, it's because I've glanced through your reviews and more than likely found books I've agreed with you on and also found at least one book that the majority loved, and you and I were less than thrilled with. I know I should follow you then for that next read that I will enjoy.

    "Love most of Scott Turow's"

Scott Turow gives a true accurate depiction of court and lawsuit procedures, along with the story. This one kept me well enthralled. I truly enjoyed Presumed Innocent, but not "Innocent" so much. I'd give that one 3 stars. I loved "Reversible Errors", too.

If you like his other legal thrillers along this same line, this shouldn't disappoint.

    "The Laws of Our Fathers"

What a wonderfully written book and I listen to it twice to fully understand it completely. A very good book that I would recommend.

"Disconnected - Story was all over the map."
What disappointed you about The Laws of Our Fathers?

Disconnected - Story was all over the map and very hard to follow, bouncing back and forth from history to current story and the end chapters - I don't even know why I listened to them. You could have cut this book in half and still would have dragged.

What do you think your next listen will be?

Most Likely, back to John Grisham.

What about the narrators’s performance did you like?

Narrators did there best to make a boring story, interesting. The female narrator was the best. Each time the story move away from her, I was waiting for her return.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Laws of Our Fathers?

Pretty much everything after the mistrial. The same music repeated at the end AND the beginning of a chapter - EXTREMELY annoying. Play it once move on....

    "Slit my wrists"

I have read several of Turow's novels. I knew when this was 24 hours it would be long. I was hoping for interesting. This books drones on endlessly about nothingness.

If I heard one more sentence about Sonny's weird mother, I would need psychotherapy. This plot could have been told in an interesting 8 hours. I have never wanted to hit fast forward so many times in one book. There are whole chapters that could have been condensed to three sentences.

Save your money and your sanity!

    "What a dissappointment"
What would have made The Laws of Our Fathers better?

Made it about laws not racism. The plot wasn't about a case in court

What do you think your next listen will be?

    not Scott Turow..

Would you be willing to try another one of the narrators’s performances?

    nothing wrong with narrators

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

    boredom

    "BAD BAD BAD and WORSE"
Would you try another book from Scott Turow and/or the narrators?

    not sure

What was most disappointing about Scott Turow’s story?

the jumping back and forth so much in time and the ending was the worse - I kept listening thinking it would get better but it only got worse - most books that start confusing or boring in the first few chapters will get going and interesting but this one only got worse and more confusing....

How could the performance have been better?

a story that didn't jump around so much.....

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Laws of Our Fathers?

    ALL

    Any additional comments?

what a waste of a credit and time....
