Publisher's summary

Turning 27 may be terrifying for some, but for Alex, a struggling artist living in the Midwest, it is cataclysmic. Something about this birthday, his name, and the beautiful woman whose life he has just saved has suddenly made him - and everyone he loves - a target. Entertaining, but unoriginal

If you're a fan of Terry Goodkind's "Sword of Truth" series you'll probably find something to enjoy in this book. It ties together nicely with the original series picking up 1000+ years after the last book left off. I like how the stories fit together but it would have been nice if the author had made more of an effort to come up with some original characters. The hero and heroine are almost identical to those from the original series. The way they meet each other is the same as is their general skill sets and how they develop throughout the storyline. The only things that seem to have changed are their names. (Correction...their FIRST names.) The last names are still the same.

As for the villains, they aren't quite copies from the original series. These new people are more like a saturday morning cartoon villains. They have no depth or interesting back stories. They're are just bad and have to be stopped. I also had a lot of trouble telling the difference between the main villain and his right hand man, they seem like they could be same person. This isn't helped by the fact that the narrator uses the exact same voice for both of them.

There are plenty of unique, exciting and suspenseful situations presented in this book but for the most part the overall plot unfolds in an almost identical way to the first book of the Sword of Truth series.

Superb novel by Terry Goodkind!

A most enjoyable story of adventure, intrigue, suspense, love laced with a bit of humor wrapped an outstanding performance as read by Mark Deakins . Highly recommend for anyone who is looking for a science fiction novel that well hold your attention.

Raises more questions

One suggestion, if you never read the sword of truth series by Terry Goodkind don't pick this up, you will only be confused to what is going on. If you have read them then this is a must read in my opinion.

I have mixed feelings about this one. I have so many questions that I can't ask or put into this review without spoilers. I like where he is going with this If there is going to be a in going story. If not and that's all, then that is very disappointing. Story over all was good, narrator did a good job. He did sound like a robot from time to time while narrating.

preachy

If you could sum up The Law of Nines in three words, what would they be?

interesting somewhat predictable

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

liked how it linked back to sword of truth didn't like the pro-gun leanings

Which scene was your favorite?

when Alex and Jax break out of the asylum

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

adventure, love, violence and a little magic

Any additional comments?

I agree with another reviewer that if you haven't read Sword of truth, then this book might not make much sense.

Enjoyed it and listened many times

I like Alex and Jax a lot. The story needs a sequel . Laves me wanting more of their adventures. Please!

A great story. I want more.

I am waiting patiently for the sequel. This is too good a story and presentation not to have one. Terry, when can we expect it?

Laws of nine

This book is amazing. I hope that terry continues the story. I love the small hints that link back to Jensen and to Richard. I’m confused by Jax last name.

Major detail not in promo

This book is a continuation of Wizards First Rule. A series of 12 outstanding books available right underneath this one at audible. The best series I've downloaded in 7 years. If you have read those you know exactly who these people are and where they are from. I'm hoping it's the beginning of a new series. Not quite done with it yet. Audible should tell you that. Unless you read the others all these artifacts won't make any sense. Alex is related to a great wizard in her world and doesn't know it. She is a mother confessor in that world. In the long past history of her world her and his counterparts were married lovers who euled that world. Jeff

Not new

Great story. It was compelling and thrilling as Terry Goodkinds always is. However, I was hoping for something new. If you are a Sword of Truth fan its worth it, but nothing new.
