With time running out to stop the nuclear destruction of Tel Aviv, Dewey Andreas must defeat his most fearsome opponent yet.
Off a quiet street in Brooklyn, New York, Israeli Special Forces commander Kohl Meir is captured by operatives of the Iranian secret service, who smuggle Meir back to Iran, where he is imprisoned, tortured, and prepared for a show trial. What they don’t know is that Meir was in New York to recruit Dewey Andreas for a secret operation.
Meir had been tipped off that Iran had finally succeeded in building their first nuclear weapon, one they were planning to use to attack Israel. His source was a high-level Iranian government official and his proof was a photo of the bomb itself. Dewey Andreas, a former Army Ranger and Delta, owes his life to Meir and his team of Israeli commandos. Now, to repay his debt, Dewey has to attempt the impossible - to both rescue Meir from one of the world’s most secure prisons and to find and eliminate Iran’s nuclear bomb before it’s deployed - all without the help or sanction of Israel or America (at the near certain risk of detection by Iran).
Unfortunately, Dewey’s first moves have caught the attention of Abu Paria, the brutal and brilliant head of VEVAK, the Iranian secret service. Now Dewey has to face off against, outwit, and outfight an opponent with equal cunning, skill, and determination, with the fate of millions hanging in the balance.

Wow! These Dewey Andreas adventures just keep getting better and better. Narration was great, plot was awesome and the pace of action was perfect. I know there's not a real person named Dewey Andreas but this book seems so REAL! Love the way the author structures his plots and brings all the thread in the book to neat and satisfying conclusions. Highly recommend this listen to anyone who enjoys thrillers. Great listen! Solid 5 ***** stars all the way.
Glad they returned to the original narrator from the first book. He captures the inner voice and nuances of Andreas, Jessica and Calabreze well.
I found this series after listening to Vince Flynn's Mitch Rapp series and Michael Connelly's Harry Bosch series. I like to find an author who can develop characters and then take them through various plots. In addition to the previous mentioned two, DeMille's John Corey and John Sanford's Virgil Flowers and Lucas Davenport come to mind.
When an author can create such a realistic character...well the reading/listening audience is in his palm so to say. Excellent and relevant plot lines by Coes...I hope he keeps Andreas going for some time to come.
Make sure you read all three books in order- War against terrorism seems to be the plot of the day for authors these days but this one goes outside the box with realism and very believable attacks. I can only hope we have a lot of Dewey's out there to watch our backs!
I love espionage, legal, and detective thrillers but listen to most genres. Very frequent reviews. No plot spoilers! Please excuse my typos!
I was fortunate to run across and listen to the first Dewey Andras novel, Power Down, when it was published in 2010. I'm now catching up with reviews of the best espionage thrillers I listened to prior to beginning to write reviews at Audible. By the way, Ben Coes' next Dewey Andras thriller, First Strike, will be released on June 28, 2016.
In The Last Refuge Kohl Meir, leader of Israeli special forces, is kidnapped in New York City by Iranian operatives where he went to, among other things, enlist the help of Dewey Andras with an operation. Meir is moved to a prison in Iran where he is tortured and placed in a show trial for spying. Andras' mission is to enter Iran and free Meir. The background is that Iran is seeking to fabricate justification to destroy Israel with nuclear bombs.
This is a great espionage thriller! It's made even better by the return of Peter Hermann to narrate the series.
Very highly recommended!
Yes. I will probably listen to the whole series again. This is so well written with a very well developed plot including many fine details that I'm sure a second time around wouldn't be boring.
It's obviously Dewey Andreas.
I listened to this in two days.
It took me months to decide to try this series. I finally took a chance and am now on the third in a row. My next purchase will be the forth in the series and I'm looking forward to the next one to be written.
I have listened to all 3 of his books and this is the best by far. What I found in the first was the entire story was marginal at best. The second book was a good story but for some reason he introduced a 36 hour time line to get from Australia to Pakistan and then overthrow the President of Pakistan. Not very realistic. This book was again a good story but again strayed into the unrealistic catagory. I won't give the story away but I think you will see my point when Dewey finally accomplishes his mission. I like Coes and think there is some good reading potential here but he needs to work on his realism a bit more.
The narrator was excellent. His ability to change tones in his voice was very enjoyable.

This third entry in the Dewey Andreas series will keep you on the edge of your seat. Coes starts the action quickly and it never slows. Andreas must rescue a man who saved his life and also stop insane Iranian Mullah's from detonating a nuclear bomb in Tel Aviv. The story is perfectly narrated by Peter Hermann, who manages to keep the tempo steady from start to finish. If you are looking for an exciting thriller similar, but in my opinion superior, to Vince Flynn, this is for you. Grab it now!
I listen to audible in bed at night, and this kept me awake listening. Some titles and readers put me to sleep, which isn't too bad either, but I do like a good exciting book.
The premise of a Dewey being around to make the difference makes for a fun read.
Peter expressed emotion (especially anger) with more force than the usual readers
