Publisher's summary

The four dead guards didn’t concern Mitch Rapp as much as the absence of the man they’d been paid to protect. Joe Rickman wasn’t just another foot soldier. For the last eight years Rickman had ran the CIA’s clandestine operations in Afghanistan. It was a murky job that involved working with virtually every disreputable figure in the Islamic Republic. More than a quarter billion dollars in cash had passed through Rickman’s hands during his tenure as the master of black ops and no one with a shred of sense wanted to know the details of how that money had been spent.

At first glance it looks as if Rickman has been kidnapped, but Rapp knows certain things about his old friend that cause him to wonder if something more disturbing isn’t afoot. Irene Kennedy, the director of the CIA, has ordered Rapp to find Rickman at all costs. Rapp must navigate the ever-shifting landscape of Afghanistan as the Taliban, Iranians, Pakistanis and Russians all plot to claim their piece of the war torn state.

With Afghanistan crumbling around him, Rapp must be as ruthless as his enemies and as deceitful as people in his own government if he has any hopes of completing his mission.

Vince Flynn delivers again!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Only those that love the genre! Mitch is a complex character that you will either love or hate. If you have read the other Rapp books in the series, then you are a fan. He is wildly entertaining, he is able to say what we in the real world cannot say and he is a results oriented kinda guy. Who wouldn't love him?

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Last Man?

The explosion......

Have you listened to any of George Guidall’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes. He is superior in this role and disappears from the script, exactly what a great narrator should do. The books I've listened to that have not had Mr. Guidall narrate were only satisfactory or even irritating due to the narrator. Mr. Guidall shines!

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Betrayed.

Any additional comments?

I'm sorry I will need to wait for another year to ride along with Mitch again.

The perfect Flynn ending

This is a rough review to write, as this was the last book Vince Flynn ever penned. That being said, what a perfect way to wrap it up.

THE LAST MAN has every piece of Mitch Rapp in it. It has Hurley, Wicker, Nash, Kennedy, and the rest of the gang, as they pursue the captors of "Rick." This book is one of those can't-put-down types. It's incredibly fast-paced, and the more I read Vince, the more I realize just how brilliant he is. The way he can craft words is utterly amazing. He had a metaphor in this novel that I thought was so superb. It read: "...I'm the one drowning here, while you're sitting on the Lido deck sucking down some fruity drink." I don't know why this stuck with me, but I think it just showcased how truly genius Vince Flynn was with writing. He was a true wordsmith.

Love his accuracy

Any additional comments?

Flynn's books are amazing! Having been to Afghanistan and served in the military I am constantly amazed at how accurate his books are! This guy really does his research! I feel like I'm listening to a story by a fellow soldier

Mitch Rapp is the Best!

Vince Flynn is my favorite author of the counter--terrorism genre. I have never been disappointed with any of his counter-terrorism novels and I have read all of them. He never "dials in" his next book, riding on the success of his last. This story is thoroughly satisfying giving us a fast moving "surprise ending" plot set in current period Afghanistan. It gives us a vision of the complexity of working with challenging allies. As always, our hero Mitch Rapp, "kicks ass and takes names". I also enjoyed Vince's insight on U.S., as well as, Afghanistan inter-governmental intrigue. As always Mitch Rapp satisfies by rooting out the terrorists. I look forward to Vince Flynn's next Mitch Rapp adventure! I recommend highly.

One of the best in the series

This is one of the best of the books in the series. There is plenty of action and not a lot of yacking.

First and not my Last

This was my first book by Vince Flynn and will not be my last. Very engaging characters and plot. The pace keeps moving at a nice clip and thanks to the narrator George Guidall you feel satisfied and drawn in.

The best in the series

Mr Flynn saved his best for his last. The characters were interesting and the story was nuanced but easy to follow.

Rapp is back

Mitch is back and once again he is flexing his muscles. I love Mitch’s no nonsense approach to getting things done that nobody wants to do. Vince please keep writing and will keep reading.

A Truly Scary Scenario

The web of intrigue, betrayal and cunningness is spectacular. A very tough set of circumstances where one wonders if even super hero Mitch Rapp can solve. Also Stan Hurley reenters. A great addition. The start of a 2 book story. Great fun. Couldn't put it down
