"Horrible acting job by the narator."
What disappointed you about The Last Heroes?

The narator's voice was painful to listen to with his nasal twang. He struggled to change his vioce to do different charactors. I couldn't even get thirty minutes into it before I had try another book. Hopefully the book in this series that Scott Brick narates will be better. I've heard him narate in several other books and he does a fantastic job of creating charactors. I have listened to several other books of W.E.B. Griffen and really enjoyed them.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

    I couldn't finish it.

Would you be willing to try another one of Michael Russotto’s performances?

    Never.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

I'm not sure, I couldn't get passed the narotor.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

While this is a great anthology & story line, the narrator is totally out of his depth.
The narrator doesn't know the word "caveat" in the military intelligence sense.
Lots of starting and stopping in the dialogue.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

The plot is a do-over of other W.E.B. Griffin books. You know what you are getting into when you start.
Great to work out with or ride your bike.

How could the performance have been better?

Get someone like George Guidall to narrate for you.
I recently listened to another book that had a female & male narrator.
I thought it would of been great & it did work for the story line, but the had horrendous orchestra music that over-whelmed you.
The point is that the male/female team would work well in this anthology.

Do you think The Last Heroes needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

    Duhhh-it's part of a series.

    Any additional comments?

    Get a better narrator.
But it is a good listen if you like WEB G.

"FIrst time I couldn't finish a Griffin audiobook.."
What would have made The Last Heroes better?

A better narrator. I felt like I was listening to a race caller..monotonous and monotone. How could Audible.com have possibly allowed this narrator, Michael Russotto, to read this book. I have never before failed to finish a Griffin story, but by the time I'd listened to an hour or so of this audio book, I was looking for another book to listen to. THe story is fantastic...(I've read the book before)..but the narrating was the worst I've ever experienced in an audio book. Just sad.

What didn’t you like about Michael Russotto’s performance?

He has a terrible voice..and his narrating sounds like an old fashioned horse race caller...nasal and monotone. He is the reason I couldn't finish this book.

"The narrator ruined this for me."
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

    Nothing

What was most disappointing about W. E. B. Griffin’s story?

    None

What didn’t you like about Michael Russotto’s performance?

The narrator was so dull I could not keep listening. I out it on a faster speed and it was better, but not enough of an improvement.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

    Disappointment

    Any additional comments?

I have listened to all of the WW2 series. I love them. But if the narrator is the same, i will not buy more.

"Awful narration performance and poor writing style"
What did you like best about The Last Heroes? What did you like least?

This book seems to be an early writing attempt by the author. While the story is good, it is very distracting to have "he said.". constantly in the text just to be followed up 5 words later with "Canidy said". This in itself is distracting to a fault and is not necessary. I have read a lot of other books by this author and have not experienced this in those.

The book does a great job of pulling you into the story line of the two main characters, however when the other character's story lines are brought in they are rather uninteresting, a bit bothersome or distracting. I don't believe enough effort was built into these parts of the story and they end up being a necessary after thought.

Would you be willing to try another book from W. E. B. Griffin? Why or why not?

I will buy another book, but not on the merits of this particular book. I have read a good number of his novels and think they are fabulous. I will continue this series solely in the hope he improves quickly and that he finds a different narrator.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

I am a great fan of audio books, and have always been impressed with the ability of the narrators. This is the first book that I have to say was an awful narration. The character voices were forced and sounded awful. None of the voices sounded realistic. I hate to be so negative but I put the narration on par with a 6th grade drama reading. Knowing the narrator will also narrate the next book in the series gives me great pause to purchase it.

Do you think The Last Heroes needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

yes it is part of a series. Honestly, I really feel like the book was just getting started when it ended. the story line did not come to a close.

"The First and Best of the Series"
Would you listen to The Last Heroes again? Why?

This book tells the story of America's early covert war against the Japanese and Germans prior to the official beginning of the Second World War. The story is told primarily from the perspective of junior naval aviator turned Flying Tiger, turned agent of the OSS. These unlikely career changes are well handled through the narrative. In this series Griffin breaks the mold of using an independently and unrealistically wealthy protagonist to tell the story. Moreover, the attention detail and realistic dialogues of the Brotherhood of War and early Corps series are present in this book.

Russotto's performance of the book is, however, uninspired and sleep inducing.

    "Narrator stinks"
What disappointed you about The Last Heroes?

This narrator is terrible! I want my money back!
I love this author but can't even get through Part 1. Can I exchange it for one of W.E.B Griffin's books that has a different performer? Anyone but Russotto!!!

What didn’t you like about Michael Russotto’s performance?

His tone and rhythm sound like a spoiled 10 year old whining at his parents

"great book not performed well by narrator"
Is there anything you would change about this book?

I would have someone else perform the narrative. Michael Russotto gave no life to the characters and read it like a dissertation. It was a starch contrast to the other titles by this author that are performed by other narrators

Would you be willing to try another book from W. E. B. Griffin? Why or why not?

yes, I love his audio books

What didn’t you like about Michael Russotto’s performance?

I would not call it a performance. It was a reading.
