The Last Don is Mario Puzo at his finest - a masterful saga of the last great American crime family, the Clericuzios, and their powerful reach into Hollywood and Las Vegas.
Domenico Clericuzio is a wise and ruthless man who, in his old age, is determined to create a life free from criminal activities for his grandchildren. But as he strives to establish his heirs in legitimate society, secrets from his family's past spark a vicious and bloody war between cousins....

"Too much Hollywood"
Much like The Godfather meandering off into the minutiae of Johnny Fontaine this one is padded out with so much Hollywood I almost forgot it was about a Son. Unlike The Godfather the rest just didn't do it for me.
"The Godfather Light!"
I really enjoyed this book and flew through it as it was so entertaining. The characters are though rather shallow and one dimensional and at times it did remind me of an American TV mini-series!
But maybe I'm shallow too, as I loved it!
I've read 3 of Mario Putzos books now and the man tells a story like no other, if you are a romantic, a cynic or just like a good old fashioned mafia story this is for you, it's got everything and is superbly written.
"Mesmerised from the beginning"
From the very start you are transported into a new world of power. Great listen
"Great story; lacks the Godfather element"
Great story; lacks the Godfather element. Narrations is good, and deliver of the story was good.
"The lost don"
This is a mixed story nothing to do with the godfather or the sicilian it's really a story about Hollywood and the ups and downs and ins and outs of the movie bussiness .
excellent reading could not stop, had me enthralled as I love anything to do with gangsters
