"Stunning....Shrewdly written and sharply plotted...The Last Detective is a rare treat." (The Washington Post Book World)
"The terrible, heartstopping climax is so well written that time seems to stop. Crais combines the thriller and private eye genres into a dazzling novel." (Publishers Weekly)
I am an audible junkie and love detective and police stories and this would have to be the worst book I have ever read. I will be very aware of any book narrated by William Roberts and will avoid at any cost.
"A great read"
This is the first Robert Crais novel I have listened or indeed read and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The plot kept me hooked right until the end, the characters, especially Elvis and the enigmatic Joe Pike were easily believable flawed creations and the reading was fabulous.
i have now listened to many Elvis Cole books and this is the best. i couldn't stop listening to it. I recommended it, even my partner enjoyed it.
"Compelling LA private eye drama"
Interesting characters and a plot with enough twists and turns to keep you listening. I hadn't heard of Robert Crais before but I'm now working my way through his titles. There's an air of authenticity about his slightly flawed characters and the references to the streets and places of LA, that bring it to life with a balance of pathos and action. Highly recommended.
"The Last Detective? More Please!"
Robert Crais books are about the right length. The plot keeps moving and the combination of suspense and humour is just about right. I really enjoyed this book and the narration of William Roberts brings the story alive. Whether the plot is credible does not matter; this is a well read yarn that grabs you and does not let go!
"A good fast paced clever story"
The story moves at a great rate, the plot developments are gripping and well read, and the reader gives it a great impetus with his strong style of delivery.
I have always been a Robert Crais fan and this audio book does not disappoint.
Made an 8 hour drive fly by.
"So good it made me Cry!!"
I had never heard of Robert Crais before and bought this audio book on the recommendations of other listeners, and I was not disappointed. It was really well paced and I loved the characters, despite the fact that it is about the 11th book he has written I didn't feel 'left behind', I will definately be buying the other books in the series.
