Publisher's summary

The office of the public defender is not known as a training ground for bright young litigators. Clay Carter has been there too long and, like most of his colleagues, dreams of a better job in a real firm. When he reluctantly takes the case of a young man charged with a random street killing, he assumes it is just another of the many senseless murders that hit DC every week.

As he digs into the background of his client, Clay stumbles on a conspiracy too horrible to believe. He suddenly finds himself in the middle of a complex case against one of the largest pharmaceutical companies in the world, looking at the kind of enormous settlement that would totally change his life - that would make him, almost overnight, the legal profession’s newest king of torts....

Great story

Loved it. Not the typical outcome expected in a John Grisham novel, however it was terrific.

One of the best !!!

I love John Grisham & for me this is in my Top 5 of the best of Grisham. Michael Beck is always the best. In my opinion Micheal Beck should be the ONLY reader of Grisham books!!

King of Torts

Yes, I am prejudiced about John Grishom...but then I have read most of his books. This book is no different than any of his other writings as far as ability to hold your interest and great writing. Loved it. You will not go wrong in reading this book.

The man is a great spinner of tales

Is King of Torts great literature. Maybe not, but Grisham is a wonderful story teller, who creates a fascinating world we know little about, and will never experience, and brings it vividly to life for the reader. It's what we used to call a "great summer read."

Great story of a money filled rise and fall

Great story, well written and performed. Grisham is such a fluid author and listening to his words through beck always get me so enthralled in any book they’re on together. Very rare!

A solid Grisham Novel

A good story but was a bit predictable. several times I questioned the likleyhood of this actually happening but it had me wanting to know more and find out what happens next. I did get to a point where I didn't want to know more and put it down... but like a spectacular car crash, you just can't look away. good ending but like a good novel leaves you wanting more and hopefully this is not the last we hear from some of these characters. And I really enjoy Michael Beck. of all the narrators I find him the most enjoyable.
