Publisher's summary

The extraordinary new adventure from the number-one New York Times- best-selling author.

Jungles come in many forms. There are the steamy rain forests of the Burmese highlands. There are the lies and betrayals of the world of covert operations. And there are the dark and twisted thoughts of a man bent on near-global domination. To pull off their latest mission, Juan Cabrillo and the crew of the Oregon must survive them all.

A devastating new weapon unleashed in 13th-century China... a daring rescue in the snowbound mountains along the Afghanistan/Pakistan border... a woman gone missing in the jungles of northern Thailand and Myanmar... for Cabrillo and his crew, all of these events will come together - leading to the greatest threat against U.S. security that the world has ever known.

Take another thrilling voyage with the Oregon Files.

What ever happened to the "Oregon?"

I have been a HUGE fan of the Oregon Files since it's inception with "Golden Buddah!" However, since "Sacred Stone" (2nd book in series) the very beast & beauty of the good ship "Oregon" has become less & less relevant to the story! In the last couple of installments about the only role the Oregon plays is for communication between land & sea along with a gathering place for Juan & Co to discuss intel & plan their next action, You can do that in a motel room....or anywhere else in the world! I really hate to give any Oregon Files book only 3 stars but until Cussler & DuBrul get back to basics & make the Oregon, along with all her tricked out toys & deadly weapons, the basis of books going forward, it's all I can give! Afrer all, the series is called The "Oregon" Files! Please, please, please, give us back the Oregon! There are thousands of books to choose from if we just want to listen to shoot em up stories! But the Oregon is UNIQUE only to this series, & the ONLY reason I listen!

Not Scott Brick

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

As long as they haven't listened to the others in the series first.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Yes. Always fun to see how they'll get out of the next spot.

Would you listen to another book narrated by Jason Culp?

NO. Just NO.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Discovery that could change the world

Any additional comments?

I had to stop listening to this book and go back to it later. I've listened to all the Oregon Files books and pretty much back to back so the introduction of a new narrator threw me for a loop. I didn't even look to see who the narriator was before I bought it (yeah didn't even wast a credit on it I actually paid money for it). It's like watching your favorite tv show for 7 seasons and all of a sudden they change the whole cast on you except it's not new characters it's just different people playing them. When I went back later I was able to listen to it without cringing (mostly). I learned to live with the voice he used for everyone but Linda's. I'm still gritting my teeth thinking about hers. Oh and Hali Kasim, I thought he was pure American despite his name. Maybe I'm wrong about that, but his accent was horrible either way. If Scott Brick isn't back for the next one I'll read it instead of listening to it.

what happened to Scott Brick reading these novels

great book /story - I LOVE Cussler's books and have read ( listened) to them all

Scott Brick is DA MAN ! No offense to Jason Culp, but he aint no Scott Brick

I have gotten so used to the characters by way of Scott's awesome narration, that when Jason read, it was like a completely ( and not close to as enjoyable ) new set of characters

BRING BACK SCOTT !!

Fingernails on a chalkboard.

Interesting and engaging storyline that very nearly overcomes the abysmal narration. Jason Culp offers up a menagerie of horrendous accents that very nearly killed my interest. Scott Brick, you are sorely missed!

Engaging read

Keeps your interest; better than the dirk pitt or the l'il pitts. Little slow in portions, but lots of action--typically miraculous at times--it is a classically cussler/dubrul adventure story where the worst of both authors gives way to the best of both. Definitely worth a credit.

Good Story - Wrong Storyteller

I enjoy Jason Culp's narration, as a rule, but Juan Cabrillo and the crew of the Oregon are best represented by Scott Brick.

The narrator is actually decent

Guys, cut the man some slack. If you actually pay attention, Jason Culp uses his inhalations to denote punctuation, which is quite nice and helps you understand the sentence structure and therefore the story line better. No, the accents aren’t as good as Scott Brick’s, but he uses distinct accents for every character consistently so you’re never confused about which character is speaking.

Best Book by Clive Cussler

I have not heard all of Clive Cussler's books, but so far I think this is his best. The ending is so surprising! Absolute power is frightening. What if...
