I read most of the books in this series when they were first published. It is a treat to hear them as audio books years later.
I have read books from other series written by Charlaine Harris, but Aurora has remained my favorite character. As the series progressed, Aurora matured and progressed as a character. I believe that is one of the reasons she seems "real" to me, and I've never tired of her.
In this book Aurora has married, and found her "dream house". However both her marriage and the house include a few nightmares that she hadn't expected. This is the story of how she deals with those nightmares.
Ms. Harris populates her books with interesting and unique characters, many of whom show up in later books. This book is the first appearance on the Shelby and Angel Youngblood. I hesitate to write much about them because I don't want to include any "spoilers." I will just say I find them unique and fascinating.
Narrator Therese Plummer is superb. Her work added so much to my enjoyment of the story.
This is a mystery that includes a little romance, a little humor, and lots of puzzles. If' I'd had the time I could easily have listened to the entire book in one sitting. It was great fun to listen to, and I was sad when the end came. I intend to "revisit" all the books in this series.
Thank you Charlaine Harris for creating these stories for me to submerge in to. I enjoy your characters and appreciate sharing their lives without having to give advice or listen to their problems. I LOVE being in total control of my visits with them and that makes our times together most enjoyable!
I fell in love with "Ro" right from the start, but this one was absolutely the best... the ending was an absolute surprise, and I am so disappointed that I don't have a credit until next month to download book #5. I really like this lady!
We love this series on the Hallmark Channel, but we love it even more as a novel. The Character is much more developed. The best part about this book is that I can listen to it when my middle school and high school kids are in the car. No foul language and no crazy sex sequences even though it's a murder mystery.
I read this book some years ago between the early Sookie books and I was searching for more Charlaine Harris. Ms. Harris has always been a good writer, but the feeling here is very different from Sookie, and for me there was no joy here, just some contentment, and a bit of self-pity. Terese Plummer's reading gives this book a bit of bounce and energy that I didn't enjoy just reading the books. I am so glad I paid attention to audible reviews and downloaded this book.
The beginning of the book is slow and very little happens. There is an elaborate plan for Ro to buy Martin his family farm for a wedding present, and then the farm is never mentioned again. There is a big reveal about Martin, but all is well because the sex is good and after all Ro is finally married like everyone else. Gag. The mystery, which finally rolls around, is very easy to figure out who did it.
Least interesting was Martin's big secret, because whatever he's done in the past doesn't matter as long as Ro has her Barbie Dream House and a ring on her finger.
No favorite scene.
Yes, never buy a book in this series again.
I enjoyed this story and the twists and turns it took. The narrator's voice was pleasant and she did an excellent job of changing voices when alternating characters.
A wonderful mystery from a mistress of the supernatural, this book has romance AND thrills... And real people.
Wife, mother, athlete. Part-time business manager at a tennis facility. 80 minute commute everyday allows for much listening!
I have enjoyed the first three books in the series, but this one had a lot of character development at the front of the book. The mystery didn't begin until three fourths into the book. Too much fluff.
