Now, nine years after his release from prison, his innocence long forgotten, he's an ex-con who takes nothing for granted. With his wife Olivia pregnant, and the two of them closing on a house in his hometown, things are looking up. Until the day Matt gets a shocking, inexplicable video call from Olivia's phone. And in an instant, the unraveling begins.
A mysterious man who begins tailing Matt turns up dead. A beloved nun is murdered. And local and federal authorities, including homicide investigator Loren Muse, a childhood schoolmate of Matt's with a troubled past of her own, see all signs pointing to a former criminal with one murder already under his belt...Matt Hunter. Unwilling to lose everything for a second time, Matt and Olivia are forced outside the law in a desperate attempt to save their future together.
An electrifying thrill-ride of a novel that peeks behind the white picket fences of suburbia, The Innocent is at once a twisting, turning, emotionally-charged story and a compelling tale of the choices we make and the repercussions that never leave us.

"[Coben's] best book to date." (Publishers Weekly)
"As usual with Coben, an intriguing start, hinging on one out-of-whack technological trick, hurtles into a fast-paced hunter-and-hunted drama. First-rate." (Booklist)
What an enormous yawn! Even Scott Brick's considerable talents as a reading couldn't keep this reader interested Maybe I should have gotten the abridged version, if available---something I never do.
One of the best books I've read since the author's last book. Lots of twists and turns . Couldn't stop listening. Scott Brick does his usual great job.
This is one of those books that grabs your attention from the start and has very few lulls throughout the story. Some audio books are presented in a way that makes it hard to keep track of the characters. This book does not have that problem. This is the first title I have listened to by this author and I loved it! I also like Grisham, Patterson, Sanford & Ludlum to name a few. In it's own way, this author is every bit as good as those I mentioned. Coben has his own distinctive style and I feel sure this will be a refreshing and enjoyable change of pace for mystery fans that have never tried Coben's books. I recommend "The Innocent" highly.
Having a Coben book Read by Brick makes it a must read. Scott Brick does his usual superb narration, and I thought this was the best of the several books I've listened to by Harlan Coben. It was interesting all the way to the end. I didn't find it predictable at all, although I did figure out portions of the story before the author revealed them. You simply can't go wrong getting this one.
I was so excited when I saw this book come up on Audible. I had listened to another one of this author's books and enjoyed the suspense and story. This book gave me none of that. The long paragraphs about the emotional state of the main character made me want to gag, they were so trite and predictable. Call me a cynic, but "Love at First Sight" found again is just too precious. The twists and turns were contrived and unbelievable. I found it difficult to like or care about any of the characters, just wanted them to get to the oh so predictable ending so I could move on to my next listen!
I am quickly becoming a fan of Scott Brick's narrations. Not only is this a great story with well-paced action and superb characters - but Brick's "acting" gives everything more depth and power than could ever be delivered by the printed page. Get it, you won't be sorry!
This was my first book by this author and I enjoyed it very much and I look forward to another of his books. What can I say about Scott Brick....Just the BEST!!!! I would listen to anything that he reads.
