Publisher's Summary

In 1987, Alex Konevitch was thrown out of Moscow University for "indulging his entrepreneurial spirit." But by 1991, he was worth $300 million. On track to become Russia's wealthiest man, he makes one critical mistake: he hires the former deputy director of the KGB to handle his corporate security. And then his world begins to fall apart.

Kidnapped, beaten, and forced to relinquish his business and his fortune, Alex and his wife escape to the United States, only to be accused by his own government of stealing millions from his business.

With a mob contract out on his life and the FBI hot on his trail, Alex is a desperate man without a country-facing the ultimate sacrifice for the chance to build a new life for himself and his family.

    "Superb"

I just finished this Brian Haig's thriller. I have rarely given a thriller a 5 star, even a good one but this novel definitely got my highest rating. It is author's finest work yet. It is a thriller masterpiece in all aspects: the story is captivating, composition and flow are excellent, research is superb, characters are euthentic, ..oh and the wit, the classic wit of the writer was the greatest sweetner. Moreover, to me, knowing that the story is based on true account just added another dimension to the experience.
And don't get me wrong: I love Sean Drummond, the writer main character in the previous series, and I thought I'd miss this funny fellow in this book. Turned out not as much as I thought.
To me, this novel was gripping, insightful and highly entertaining. Scott Brick, as always, did a masterful job.

    Enjoy it.

    Story
    "Phenomenal, thrilling, mesmerizing"
Would you consider the audio edition of The Hunted to be better than the print version?

Yes, Scott Brick's narration brings the characters to life. He had me 'living' the story as he narrated. The narration turned this from a 2-dimensional read to a 3-dimensional experience. Mr. Brick is very gifted. He is able to bring the many personalities in the story to life in a way that - as you listen to him - you understand that this is what the author wanted you to to experience as you read his story.

What other book might you compare The Hunted to and why?

Up Country by Nelson DeMille. Although it is fictionalized, it too is based on real life events that DeMille lived through. The substance of the book when combined with the superb narration puts you into the moment, allowing you to experience the terrain, the tension, the politics, the characters and the lives of the participants and victims of the war from all sides.

Which character – as performed by Scott Brick – was your favorite?

An unfair question, since the story is broader than just a character - but the top pick would be Alex.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Yes - there were many such moments. From the first escape scene in the restaurant to the final victory.

    Any additional comments?

This book has gotten me hooked on Audible. I used to be an occasional listener. After hearing The Hunted and getting really moved by the story, I I began to buy more credits and also immediately bought a few hundred more hours of listening by responding to Audible email promotions.

    "The Hunted"

Talk about a book that makes one wonder who is who and what is what. Every time I thought I knew who the characters were, I found they were completely different. Very interesting book of fiction. I kept wondering on what the story was based. If you like international intrigue, this one is different.

I love espionage, legal, and detective thrillers but listen to most genres. Very frequent reviews. No plot spoilers! Please excuse my typos!

"Superb novel based on the true story..."

of Alex Konevitch (Koanykhin) who is a close friend of Brian Haig. The Hunted is in my opinion the very best of Brian Haig's novels, and Haig is one of the best writers of thrillers. Scott Brick narrates. Brick is simply the best.

    Very highly recommended.

    Story
"I hesitated and I was wrong."

I have read most if not all of Brian Haig's books and I looooovvvveee Scott Brick as a narrator so I was planning to buy this when I first saw it in the catalog. Then I read the description and didn't think I was interested. So I moved on. Then I circled back around a time or two until finally one day I bought it without really paying attention.

I'm so glad I did! The story was not what I thought it was going to be; it was so much better. Scott Brick as usual turns in a stellar performance. The plot is compelling, and sadly believable. I wasted a lot of time not reading this book - get it today and see for yourself!

    "Decent, but not his best"

I have been a big fan of Brian's books (Drummond series) and was happy to try this book. For me, this book just did not have the cohesiveness of his Drummond books. I found myself saying 'There is not way the character could possibly make this decision, given the plot line to this point' several times. About half way thru, a brand new cast of characters are introduced. This took me by surprise, as I was already struggling to continue. The last third of the book picks up pace again, and comes to a somewhat satisfying conclusion. This is definitely not a listen to twice book. Once, OK. Just don't expect this to be as good as his previous books.
Scott Brick does his usual efficient narration. Unlike another reviewer, I kind of liked his russian accent.

    "Excellent book"

My first Brian Haig book and I loved it (though I admit Scott Brick as the narrator played a big role in my decision to get it). I love Brick, and while his readings of Nelson DeMille's John Corey books are my favorites, he doesn't disappoint and hits the accents fairly consistently. Great story, kept me driving around to see what happens next. You won't be disappointed.

    "Brian Haig is teriffic"

I love me some Scott Drummond and was disappointed to see that his newest novel was not on Drummond - but bought it anyway!
The mixed reviews made me hesitate, but I'm glad I got it. It was a terrific audio book as I kept making reasons to drive somewhere to listen some more.
If you like Haig's other work - you're sure to enjoy this as well.

    "Another engrossing Brian Haig story"

Scott Brick is the consummate audio reader, all the more so when the material is as engrossing as this.

A story based on actual characters who become intimates if the reader as the story unfolds.

It's high finance and international thuggery at its worst....and engrossing until the end.
