Publisher's summary

Sherlock Holmes is the greatest detective in literary history. For the first time since the death of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, a new Holmes story has been sanctioned by his estate, whetting the appetites of fans everywhere. Information about the book will be revealed as deliberately as Holmes himself would unravel a knotty case, but best-selling novelist and Holmes expert Anthony Horowitz is sure to bring a compelling, atmospheric story to life. With access to the estate's archives and careful study of the original stories, Horowitz is sure to weave a tale that satisfies new fans as well as the most dedicated Baker Street Irregular.

As good as the originals!

Any additional comments?

This book was as true to the original Sherlock Holmes as can be imagined - thrillng, intelligent, rich in late Victorian-age detail - and Jacobi's performance was perfect. The only reason why I gave this one less than 5 stars was that I deduced what the "House" was and the ultimate perpretrators of the criime very (too) early in to the listen.

Another Great Sherlock Holmes

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The reader was very good. There were just a couple of places where I would have liked the hard copy to check a word.

As good as any Conan Doyle Sherlock Holmes

If you could sum up The House of Silk in three words, what would they be?

A Spell-binding mystery

Who was your favorite character and why?

Sherlock Holmes' character is true to the original and as this complex and intriguing story takes unexpected turns one after the other...you always find that Sherlock has been there before you.

What does Derek Jacobi bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Derek Jacobi does much more than merely read the story, he makes it come alive with tone, inflection, pauses and perfect timing. His voice and accent are perfect for this task and his acting rather than reading add significantly to this novel.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, but I was not able to do so.

Any additional comments?

Great story and I will be watching for more from this great combination of Horowitz and Jacobi. My personal thanks to both author and reader for providing such a wonderful retreat from an over-paced business day.

Didnt want to like this but I did..

If you could sum up The House of Silk in three words, what would they be?

Respectful to sources

Any additional comments?

The story honored Doyle's characters well. It did not go too far over the top as some modern version's of Holmes' world often do. It was nice to hear from Watson again and enjoy the friendship he shared with this famous detective.

SO good!

For fans of the original, this does not disappoint. Pitch-Perfect narration, my complaint has to do with the plot, which is convoluted, and in comparison with Sir Conan Doyle, there isn't quite the tongue-in-cheek humor, nor quite as much period detail, but I'm a huge fan of the original, so I may be judging by too high criteria .
I did enjoy it quite a bit.

Hard to believe it wasn't Doyle.

Another great Holmes novel in the tradition of Doyle. Great storyline twisting the two mysteries together. Love the way it was tied in to Doyle's work.

A good “read”

I’m only giving The House of Silk 4 stars because it can’t beat Magpie Murders. Nonetheless it’s well written and Jacobi’s performance is excellent!

Great

Not by Sir Arthur, but definitely in the same vein with a more contemporary type of ending. Very enjoyable!

Terrific!

What a treat . Anthony Horowitz did a great job with the total style of Arthur Conan Doyle. Added treat to her Derek Jacobi narrating!

If you are a fan of the Baker Street residence

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, it was a great winter read with an unexpected twist at the end for me. I would highly recommend it.
