Classic Holmes, wonderfully narrated

I loved the twists and turns and multilevel plot. I would recommend this audiobook to anyone who appreciates a great adventure well told. Derek Jacobi’s narration was superb.

I got bored pretty quickly

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

No. It was dull compared with other SH stories

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

Have a faster pace to catch the reader's attention. I didn't finish it, so I can't say.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

It was well done, but DULL.

Did The House of Silk inspire you to do anything?

Haha! Yes. Move on to a new book.

Any additional comments?

I love SH and was eager to see what this book would offer. I so wanted to like it, but it was difficult to get into. Audiobooks should excite the listener, not put them to sleep. I normally just power through a confusing or dull book hoping that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. I couldn't do that with this book. I lost patience. Maybe in a few months or longer, I can try again....

Way too long

The story is good but excessively drawn out. The number of details that add nothing to the story is amazing.

Pretty close to Doyle...

Very much in AC Doyle’s writing style except I had figured out a few of the key details before they were revealed which I never did with original Sherlock Holmes stories. Otherwise enjoyable to listen to and interesting plot.

Doyle Would Have Been Proud

An excellent Holmes/Watson piece. I honestly believe had I read this 50 years ago I would have regarded it as one of Doyle's better works.

Horwitz amazes once in the tone of A.C. Doyle

Horwitz winding and twisting style lends well to this carfully and lovingly crafted Holmes Detective Story. True Holmesians will delight in this book while Horwitz fans will not be disappointed.

Derek Jacobi magnificently narrates. His characters are destinct, genders are identifiable, and his delivery is immersive!

Sherlock Holmes would approve!

What made the experience of listening to The House of Silk the most enjoyable?

I thought that House of Silk had a good story line, but I do want to mention that it did go into some dark subject matters. I especially enjoyed listening to Derek Jacobi!! He was a great Watson!

An excellent addition to the canon!

Mr. Horowitz has done the world of Holmes fans a tremendous service with this work.Well constructed and written in a style that instantly connects to the great works of Sir Doyle.
I was immediately drawn into the world that I have enjoyed so often over the years.

I have to say that at first skeptical of this book. As someone who has long hoped for a lost manuscript, a few unfinished chapters, or anything that could continue on the tradition in a real and authentic way, I have been very disappointed with most modern attempts at bringing Holmes back to life. This book, this author, and despite what some of the critics here have said, this narrator have captured the essence of Holmes in as pure a way as anyone could hope for short of a second coming of Arthur Conan Doyle.

Thank you Mr. Horowitz and please, keep Holmes alive!

The best since Conan Doyle himself!

I am a HUGE Sherlock Holmes fan and have found that pretty much everything not written by Conan Doyle to be a disappointment... not so with 'The House of Silk'. Whilst it took me a chapter or 2 to get into the book, once there I was completely hooked!

I usually listen to audible whilst walking the dog.... she got an extra 2 miles out of me towards the end of this book as I wanted an excuse to keep listening and find out what happened!

Quite a listen

A shorter mystery story that is wonderful to listen to. A gifted reader makes a good story that much more exciting.
