Publisher's summary

From Janet Evanovich, number-one New York Times best-selling author of the Stephanie Plum novels, and Lee Goldberg, best-selling author and television writer for Monk, comes the first adventure in an electrifying new series featuring an FBI agent who always gets her man, and a fearless con artist who lives for the chase.

FBI Special Agent Kate O’Hare is known for her fierce dedication and discipline on the job, chasing down the world’s most wanted criminals and putting them behind bars. Her boss thinks she is tenacious and ambitious; her friends think she is tough, stubborn, and maybe even a bit obsessed. And while Kate has made quite a name for herself for the past five years the only name she’s cared about is Nicolas Fox - an international crook she wants in more ways than one.

Audacious, handsome, and dangerously charming, Nicolas Fox is a natural con man, notorious for running elaborate scams on very high-profile people. At first he did it for the money. Now he does it for the thrill. He knows that the FBI has been hot on his trail - particularly Kate O’Hare, who has been watching his every move. For Nick, there’s no greater rush than being pursued by a beautiful woman...even one who aims to lock him up. But just when it seems that Nicolas Fox has been captured for good, he pulls off his greatest con of all: He convinces the FBI to offer him a job, working side by side with Special Agent Kate O’Hare.

Problem is, teaming up to stop a corrupt investment banker who’s hiding on a private island in Indonesia is going to test O’Hare’s patience and Fox’s skill. Not to mention the skills of their ragtag team made up of flamboyant actors, wanted wheelmen, and Kate’s dad. High-speed chases, pirates, and Toblerone bars are all in a day’s work...if O’Hare and Fox don’t kill each other first.

Needed a good book and there you were!

Where does The Heist rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Top 25 this year. I love humor, a good story, imagination, and a great narrator. This story has it all. I was in an audible book rut of boring books and this book pulled me out. LOVE IT! I stopped mid listen and bought the short story prequel..which I also recommend.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Heist?

I am NOT giving that away. You know there is sexual tension...how that plays out is awesome and not the normal.

What about Scott Brick’s performance did you like?

Everything. His voice is smooth, sexy, and interesting. He has a great normal pace. He lets the humor in the story through. You can see the story in your head from his voice.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Yes, but get your own. :)

Any additional comments?

Listen when you need a good book to take you away to....well a couple of really good places in the world that I now plan to visit.

Loved the story not the performance

What did you like best about The Heist? What did you like least?

The story was great but the performance almost put me to sleep.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Yes

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Scott Brick?

Anyone but this narrator. He read much too slow.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

Yes

Worth a credit, it's Janet.

Happy overall. Good pot, good characters, future characters inrroduced, sexy but not overt. Glad I picked this one.

Miss Congeniality meets White Collar

Would you try another book from Janet Evanovich and Lee Goldberg and/or Scott Brick?

Probably Not

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

I listened to the whole thing thinking that is was going to get better and more fun. It did not. It seemed to me that this book was just a vehicle to set up a whole series of books staring these two characters.

The thing that makes Janet Evanovich's books so likeable is that her characters are quirky and fun. In this book it seemed like the authors were trying to hard. The characters seemed stiff and half developed. It is like they took the Sandra Bullock's character from the movie Miss Congeniality and plopped her in the middle of an episode of White Collar meets Burn Notice.

What didn’t you like about Scott Brick’s performance?

Not have him do another one. His voice is just not pleasing to me. I feel like I am listening to the guy that narrates the old "The Grinch who Stole Christmas" TV special. His voice has a tendency to go up at the end of every sentence. It felt, to me, that he told the whole story in "Wow, isn't this ironic" tone of voice. I really think I will double check to make sure he is not the narrator before purchasing.

Could you see The Heist being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

It's been done.

Any additional comments?

Not my favorite. I couldn't wait for it to be released and bought it almost immediately and then was very disappointed.

Nice New Series From Janet & Lee

Nice little enjoyable story. It moves fast and the characters are very likable. There is Janet’s clever humor and lightness sprinkled throughout the book and none of the slapstick humor of her Stephanie Plum series. For those of you who are …. shall we say older, you may remember the Remington Steele TV show that started Pierce Bronson, well this is a bit like that. My only regret is that there wasn’t more detail at times it almost felt like an abridged version of the story. I look forward to future books in the series, but hope they have more depth and/or detail - less abridged feeling.
