Editorial reviews

A suspenseful must-listen, The Good House is about a haunted house originally owned by Angela Touissant's Haitian grandmother, Marie Touissaint. Angela tries to uncover the source of the evil plaguing the area and in the process discovers her own mystical powers. Read with great range by Robin Miles, it's a frightening experience that will keep you listening with the lights on.

Traveling back and forth in time, the listener is sucked up into every moment as the story reaches its thrilling climax. Miles captures and makes the most of each moment of terror and suspense like a guide who tells you only as much as you need to know. She also shows great skill as her voice switches from male to female, elderly Haitian woman to small-town Sheriff.

Overall, a story that would make any person squirm, but so engrossing you just can't help but listen.

Critic reviews

"Due handles the potentially unwieldy elements of her novel with confidence, cross-cutting smoothly from past to present, introducing revelatory facts that alter the interpretation of earlier scenes and interjecting powerfully orchestrated moments of supernatural horror that sustain the tale's momentum....[Due is] a writer who grows better with each book." Perfect for Stephen King fans

If you're a fan of Stephan King, I expect you'll love this book. It is based on a supernatural supposition, and it has character development similar to King's. But it's a fresh new voice very satisfying to those of us who may have become tired of King's worn out phrases and idiosyncrasies. The narration was excellent, handling the range from sage, femaile Creole African American, to surly teanagers and everything in between. If you're not comfortable with the length and detail of a King novel, this probably will not be for you.

The Good House: a Good book

This book has good characters and a great plot line, but seems a little long. This is a good candidate for an abridged version, you know, for someone who doesn't want to have to read through all 24 hours.

The Good House

This is a great book and a wonderful read. At first I did not think I was going to like the book but once I started to listen to the reader the more she drew me into the story. I haven't finished the book as of yet but like any good book I just can not get enough of it.

lacking equally exciting ending

Wow, one of the best books i have 'read' in a long time. The character and story development was excellent. the ending was a bit of a disapointment.

Would recommend since the end really doesn't overpower the whole.

Wow

What a tale Ms Due wove! I could not stop listening. I am not one for horror stories but this one was great. Not to give away the story but in her tale we get view of traditional religions, the heartbreak of losing a child, and redemption. I loved it.

The best narration I've ever heard.

What did you love best about The Good House?

The story was fun, interesting and entertaining. However, what impressed me most about this audio book was the narrator. She was AMAZING in her range. Totally believable as middle aged women AND teenage boys. Her voice was a pleasure. I enjoyed the style of writing of this book as well. It was so honest in its delivery and the characters rich and real. I also enjoyed experiencing the flavor of a culture not my own. It was presented in a way that neither glorified nor demonized and which, therefore, made it more accessible. The actual horror story of the book was a bit silly, but I suspect perhaps I am just outgrowing horror as a genre, so no real criticism there. Good work.

Engaging

This book was very engaging. I enjoyed it throughout and never got bored. It was one of those books where I'm really happy that I picked a book that is both long and interesting. The narrator is excellent. Ms. Due weaves back and forth in time and never confuses the listener. It flows smoothly and stays intriguing. I recommend it.

A Good Listen!

As with all of her books she draws you in getting you invested in the characters! It was a great build up to the climax but once you get there it fizzles! the cure for the problem wasnt detailed enough to really get an idea of HOW the spirit was ran out! In plain What did the old lady do once she was called upon???

Fresh story with a great narrator.

I enjoyed the plot. Things moved along at a nice pace, with twists and turns to keep me engrossed. The reader moved seamlessly from character to character. Beautifully done.
