Publisher's summary

Welcome to the fabled Gold Coast, that stretch on the North Shore of Long Island that once held the greatest concentration of wealth and power in America. Here two men are destined for an explosive collision: John Sutter, Wall Street lawyer, holding fast to a fading aristocratic legacy; and Frank Bellarosa, the Mafia don who seizes his piece of the staid and unprepared Gold Coast like a latter-day barbarian chief and draws Sutter and his regally beautiful wife, Susan, into his violent world. Told from Sutter's sardonic and often hilarious point of view, and laced with sexual passion and suspense, The Gold Coast is Nelson DeMille's captivating story of friendship and seduction, love and betrayal.

The fall of the fake old money empire.

The story depicts out of date values that Republicans in 2015 want back. They say they want their country back from anyone that is not a wasp. Gold Coast shows disdain for all people not just like them. As a result shows why the political divisions have a death grip on America in 2015.

Great read for all interests

This book is a little outside my normal genre, but it is by far one of the most memorable audiobooks I've listened too. It had me laughing out loud on a number of occasions and eager to keep "turning the pages" so to speak.

I would highly recommend it, whether your interest is sci-fi, mystery, action, adventure, inspirational, etc. This book is none of that, but you'll be glad you listened.

Excellent book, characters developed very well.

I read this book many years ago when it first published and really enjoyed it so I wanted to listen to the audiobook. I was not disappointed, well done.

Fantastic!

This is a fantastic listen and the narration was masterful. If you are easily offended, find erotica or ethnic slurs unfathomable, this book is not for you.

Great detail but abrupt ending

Liked the book but it ends abruptly. Sad because the story was well developed until then.

Wow

When Gatsby meets Godfather. It was quite a time, and a hell of a story.

good but too much GC history

all of the Gold Coast back history stuff took about 1/3 of the book! way too much, IMHO. The story itself was very interesting and I will be looking for The Gate House tomorrow!! The voices/accents were incredible BRAVO

Modern Gatsby

A great story looking back towards the robber barons, current (at the time written) with the Mob, and future with suburbia. Well told.

An epic adventure

I’ve had the book for years but never could give in to the long experience. I did manage my way to the part where John’s father told him to sit in his chair at the firm and never returned and because that made me laugh I will probably find myself with book in hand. The audiobook was wonderful and got me through being under the weather which in my opinion tops television.

DeMille is one of my favorites because of his warped humor and sarcasm. My first read was The General’s Daughter which captured me and I think I’ve read or listened to everything he’s written. Maybe it’s my sense of humor and interpretation of his written word but I seem to laugh more and appreciate DeMille more when I read. I will still follow everything I find on Audible but can return to the books in my library and enjoy a second read year after year.
