Publisher's summary

Welcome to the fabled Gold Coast, that stretch on the North Shore of Long Island that once held the greatest concentration of wealth and power in America. Here two men are destined for an explosive collision: John Sutter, Wall Street lawyer, holding fast to a fading aristocratic legacy; and Frank Bellarosa, the Mafia don who seizes his piece of the staid and unprepared Gold Coast like a latter-day barbarian chief and draws Sutter and his regally beautiful wife, Susan, into his violent world. Told from Sutter's sardonic and often hilarious point of view, and laced with sexual passion and suspense, The Gold Coast is Nelson DeMille's captivating story of friendship and seduction, love and betrayal.

Very entertaining "read" -- great narration

Couldn't stop listening and Christian Rummel does great job with character voices -- almost like radio theater -- I'm surprised this book never made it to the silver screen (disregard my premature rating on Gate House, as I ordered abridged version by accident (exchanged it and now listening to 22 hour version and DeMille/Rummel still seem to be getting it done)

Love, wealth, power and seduction

What a great story! It definitely keeps the reader engaged! A little slow in the beginning to get the story unfolding but has a very interesting plot and easy to follow once it gets moving.
The characters were all intriguing as they developed throughout the story. The person reading the book did a fantastic reading of the book including voice changing of the different characters.
I totally recommend this book and I feel it appeals to both men and women.

DeMille at his best!

The Gold Coast - know for being home to many of the high society & rich and famous in by-gone days. The mansions that once were known for the famous parties now lay in varying stages of ruin, waiting to be rediscovered and returned to their past elegance.

It' a love-hate relationship with Frank Bellarosa from the get-go. John Sutter, a successful attorney in his own right, a man of high ethics and moral values struggles with his choices as he is eventually persuaded into representing one of "The Family's " top bosses, Don Bellarosa. Then, he watches as his whole life starts to unravel before his eyes and he can't stop it. The carnage left in Bellarosa's wake is like nothing John has ever experienced. John takes notice of his beautiful wife spending an inordinate amount of time at Casa Bellarosa and suspects that she has been seduced by Frank, but is afraid to ask...

Frank Bellarosa doesn't take "No" for an answer... what Frank wants, Frank gets - at any cost. Christian Rummel has done an excellent job breathing life into each of these characters and taking us on a ride of a lifetime into the dark side of the Underworld. Highly recommend!

Narration made already terrific book even better!

This was my first Nelson DeMille book and I am glad that I gave it a listen. I did not know about New York's Gold Coast, so that was interesting. The main character John was quite a character, an a.hole is some ways but I respected him in other ways. Frank Bellarosa, the Mafia Don.... I actually liked the guy, despite being a Mafia Don. John felt that way too and it got him into a heap of trouble. The narration was excellent! Frank's voice sounded exactly what you would expect for Frank to sound like. Highly entertaining.

Mr. Howell on steroids!!

DeMille has a way of not letting you put down his stories. This title was no different. It was a good read but I'm disappointed that Brick didn't narrate it though the guy that did was pretty good. This is a Mr. Thurston Howell III meets Tony Saprano novel. Written in 1990, I can't help but think that Tony Saprano was fashioned after DeMille's bad guy.

Great Characters, Good Story

The story is slow to develop, but by the time things get interesting, I really felt like I knew the characters. I was not satisfied with the ending: recommend listening to The Gold Coast and The Gate House back-to-back if possible.

Wow. What a great introduction to DeMille

My wife's favorite author, so I tried this one, at her suggestion. The ONLY complaint I have is that we are also listening to another DeMille that has a spoiler in it, for this book. So, I kind of knew how it would end. Still, a fun "read".

Another great Demille book.

I have read or listened to 6 Demille books. All were very enjoyable but maybe this is my favorite.
