Critic reviews

"Cases rarely come much colder than the decades-old disappearance of teen heiress Harriet Vanger from her family's remote island retreat north of Stockholm, nor do fiction debuts hotter than this European best seller...At once a strikingly original thriller and a vivisection of Sweden's dirty not-so-little secrets, this first of a trilogy introduces a provocatively odd couple." (Publishers Weekly)

"Combine the chilly Swedish backdrop and moody psychodrama of a Bergman movie with the grisly pyrotechnics of a serial-killer thriller, then add an angry punk heroine and a down-on-his-luck investigative journalist, and you have the ingredients of Stieg Larsson's first novel." (The New York Times)

"The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is a striking novel. Just when I was thinking there wasn't anything new on the horizon, along comes Stieg Larsson with this wonderfully unique story. I was completely absorbed." (Michael Connelly)

I would read and listen to it again and again!

There are so many subplots that when you think the story is over, the other subplot takes over. This is an amazing story with two well written in depth characters that you will follow through corporate espionage, a killer and much more. Read the book and then see the movie. Follow up with the other books in the series. You will not be disappointed.

Excellent!!

This book is one of the best I have listened too! The narration is beyond perfect, the storyline keeps you listening, it is interesting and full of surprises, twists, and turns. The story is interesting! Every character was so very real! I will listen to all in this series as well follow this author and narrator. Warning for those who suffered from childhood abuse, there are parts that may trigger you if you are still healing from that victimization.

Surprising, disturbing and excellent!

This book was definitely a surprise package. Generation was excellent. Just the right combination of suspense and day-to-day happenings to make it feel real. Though this is the first of the series I read the second, listened to the third and came back to listen the first and enjoyed all of them. The first is definitely the best. I would not recommend this book for anyone with a tender heart but all the rest of us - read on!

a really interesting and exciting mystery

I didn't think I would be able to listen to, or read this book because I thought it would be very violent and difficult to listen to. I tend to go for lighter fare, because of the nature of my work as a social worker and trauma therapist, but I actually found this book very easy to listen to, despite a few passages that were disturbing. Nothing seemed extremely detailed, some of the more violent parts were glossed over and therefore easier to listen to, and the entirety of the book was fascinating and kept my attention throughout.
