Critic reviews

"Cases rarely come much colder than the decades-old disappearance of teen heiress Harriet Vanger from her family's remote island retreat north of Stockholm, nor do fiction debuts hotter than this European best seller...At once a strikingly original thriller and a vivisection of Sweden's dirty not-so-little secrets, this first of a trilogy introduces a provocatively odd couple." (Publishers Weekly)

"Combine the chilly Swedish backdrop and moody psychodrama of a Bergman movie with the grisly pyrotechnics of a serial-killer thriller, then add an angry punk heroine and a down-on-his-luck investigative journalist, and you have the ingredients of Stieg Larsson's first novel." (The New York Times)

"The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is a striking novel. Just when I was thinking there wasn't anything new on the horizon, along comes Stieg Larsson with this wonderfully unique story. I was completely absorbed." (Michael Connelly)

Love It!

This book starts out a bit slow and confusing. However, it does pick up and is very interesting after a couple of hours. It leaves you wanting more and the rest of the series does not disappoint! My only problem is I finished the series and all I want is more Salander and Bloomkvist!

Good

Narration was overall good. I found the narrator's performances of female characters' voices (particularly Berger's) fairly annoying, but the story was so good that I didn't mind. However, the narrator's pace of reading was excellent--the words flowed very naturally.

Girl With The Dragon Tattoo

What did you love best about The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo?

Her character was interesting, sincere in her beliefs; knew when she was defeated; strong fighter.

What other book might you compare The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo to and why?

Do't know

Which scene was your favorite?

When he was freed from being tortured and murdered.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No - I needed many nights so that I could digest and enjoy it all. But, then, I would fall asleep in the evening and then have to re-read. Soooo, the book lasted a long time for me. I will enjoy re-reading it to see if I missed anything as I was always so engrossed in what was happening.

Any additional comments?

A highly caffenated mystery!

I started this book with a scant eye, but by the the end of the first chapter when I realized that Simon Vance who read "Great Expectations" (Audie winner, thank you very much)I knew it was going to be worth every penny of my Audible credit. I cared about each character and was riveted. Even the bad guys were complex and nothing was a given, which is what I love in a good mystery. On the beach, in the car or in front of a cozy fire, "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" is my hero, and this story is a must read if you want the best of current fiction.
