Publisher's summary

Audie Awards Winner, 2010

The stunning third and final novel in Stieg Larsson’s internationally best-selling trilogy.

Lisbeth Salander—the heart of Larsson’s two previous novels—lies in critical condition, a bullet wound to her head, in the intensive care unit of a Swedish city hospital. She’s fighting for her life in more ways than one: if and when she recovers, she’ll be taken back to Stockholm to stand trial for three murders. With the help of her friend, journalist Mikael Blomkvist, she will not only have to prove her innocence, but also identify and denounce those in authority who have allowed the vulnerable, like herself, to suffer abuse and violence. And, on her own, she will plot revenge—against the man who tried to kill her, and the corrupt government institutions that very nearly destroyed her life.

Once upon a time, she was a victim. Now Salander is fighting back.

Critic reviews

“Larsson’s vivid characters, the depth of detail across three books, the powerfully imaginative plot, and the sheer verve of the writing make the trilogy a masterpiece of the genre.” (The Economist)

“The literary equivalent of a caffeine rush. . . . Larsson was one of those rare writers who could keep you up until 3 a.m. and then make you want to rush home the next night to do it again.” (Newsweek)

“Salander is someone you will never forget. . . . Anyone who enjoys grounding their imaginations in hundreds . . . of exciting pages about the way we live now ought to take advantage of this trilogy.” (Chicago Tribune)

Great finish to the trilogy

The first book started slow and finished fast. The second was solid but the ending left a lot to be desired. This one simply awesome as everything is tied up in a wonderful, smart conclusion. Also through out the narrator has been wonderful. Highly recommend the entire series.

perfect finale

after a 40+ hour build up with the previous two books, it makes the 3rd that much more gripping, intense and phenomenal. i enjoyed the 1st two already but the 3rd is his masterpiece.

Convoluted but well-resolved.

Hard to follow the various narrarive threads, but ultimately satisfying. Nice to encounter such a strong, contrary-to-norms female protagonist.

Wow

I'll miss it. I've listened to all three books. Now what will I do?! It was a little difficult at first to follow all the different characters names. Just when I had them all figured out the book series is over.

Top notch narration for a great story

I have listened multiple times. Simon Vance's narration makes the characters come alive. The story is totally engrossing and combined with the fabulous narration makes me return for more.

Thank you, Steig Larsson, wherever you are!

What a shame that the author did not live to see how much reading pleasure his novels have brought to so many!

Larsson's writing is smart and captivating. His characters are people you wish you really knew, though you feel you do. This novel, the third in the series, did not disappoint. If you have not read the first two, lucky you! You still have a treat in store. Do start at the beginning to get the most out of the story and the characters. I hated to reach the end of the series.

holds up

even though this is the third book the story is fresh and very exciting. the narration is top-notch. I was worried that the story would become diluted or watered down because it was the third installment in this series but I was really happy that I found it to be as good as the first book... sad that this may be the last in the series
