Publisher's summary

Audie Awards Winner, 2010

The stunning third and final novel in Stieg Larsson’s internationally best-selling trilogy.

Lisbeth Salander—the heart of Larsson’s two previous novels—lies in critical condition, a bullet wound to her head, in the intensive care unit of a Swedish city hospital. She’s fighting for her life in more ways than one: if and when she recovers, she’ll be taken back to Stockholm to stand trial for three murders. With the help of her friend, journalist Mikael Blomkvist, she will not only have to prove her innocence, but also identify and denounce those in authority who have allowed the vulnerable, like herself, to suffer abuse and violence. And, on her own, she will plot revenge—against the man who tried to kill her, and the corrupt government institutions that very nearly destroyed her life.

Once upon a time, she was a victim. Now Salander is fighting back.

Critic reviews

“Larsson’s vivid characters, the depth of detail across three books, the powerfully imaginative plot, and the sheer verve of the writing make the trilogy a masterpiece of the genre.” (The Economist)

“The literary equivalent of a caffeine rush. . . . Larsson was one of those rare writers who could keep you up until 3 a.m. and then make you want to rush home the next night to do it again.” (Newsweek)

“Salander is someone you will never forget. . . . Anyone who enjoys grounding their imaginations in hundreds . . . of exciting pages about the way we live now ought to take advantage of this trilogy.” (Chicago Tribune)

great!

My husband and I really enjoyed this series and will surely miss Lisbeth Salander and Mikael Blomkvist. I secretly wish I possessed her computer abilities! Sorry not to have more by this author.

Great trilogy

This was a great series. Such interesting people. I liked the parts where Lisbeth and her friends were hacking and planning stratagies to get even. Lizbeth's character had a good ending with the hope that maybe she will be able to relate to people after all. Sad the author is dead. Don't miss this one.

The best in the Trilogy

taking amazing story started with the Dragon Tattoo, and developing to new heights.
the first is better then the second, but the third is above both.
do not Skip any of them, keep the order.
last hour was not a must, but it might be the base to the forth we will never have... pity.

Loved this book

I really enjoyed listening to this book. As in the other 2 books in the trilogy, I learned much about the culture, history and laws of Sweden and this was "wrapped" around a yarn so compelling that I almost did not eat or sleep until I finished it.

I am heartbroken that this talented man, Stieg Larsson, is no longer living to bring us tales so intense that I often held my breath.

Really Enjoyed This One!

Great story - VERY captivating! Some slower parts, but these were necessary for plot development. But, when there was action - WOW! As for the narrator, well, he did a really great job - - especially in performing both male and female voices (narrator didn't feel the need to render each female voice as some odd/falsetto contrivance, and just softened his normal voice sufficiently to get across the point that a woman was speaking - so thanx for that!), as well as doing a fine job with the multitude (this was a cast of dozens!) of other character voices required overall - - giving just enough variation of intonation to distinguish differences.

Fabulous -- three home runs in a row!

Would you listen to The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest again? Why?

No. I have wathed all of the moves with English subtitles. Fabulous in their own rights and the first of the American rendition. All of the movies very true to the works. but, nothing beats a great listen.

Any additional comments?

This book is a fitting conclusion to the last. All of the strings are tied up although you'll not be able to guess how till you hear the last words.

Very satisfying end to the trilogy

This book as been reviewed so many times that I doubt there is anything left unsaid about it. So I'll keep it short and sweet:

The characters are great. The use of technology is fantastic and very accurate. The plot is gripping from beginning to end. I'm glad I read the book before watching the film.

Marvelous!

This was the best book of the trilogy and I am so sorry that Stieg Larsson will write no more! His characters are so well drawn and brought to life so beautifully by Simon Vance. I already miss them like old friends: I am sure that I will soon replay the girl with the dragon tattoo to be in touch with them again.

Ties up loose ends, great finale

This book puts the story to rest with great, neatly tied story lines. No sloppy, quick finishes and I never felt like I could wait a day or two to listen to more as I went through the story. Too bad Stieg Larsson passed away before he could give us more Lisbeth. She has been one my favorite characters in a long time, no nonsence, smarter than they think.

Simon Vance is again spot on as the narrator for this series.

YOU MUST LISTEN/READ THEM ALL. Worth the credits.

The books are great and once you have heard them all, see the three Swedish films of the series, then see the American version. All great, close to the books. Worth your while.
