Publisher's summary

Audie Awards Winner, 2010

The stunning third and final novel in Stieg Larsson’s internationally best-selling trilogy.

Lisbeth Salander—the heart of Larsson’s two previous novels—lies in critical condition, a bullet wound to her head, in the intensive care unit of a Swedish city hospital. She’s fighting for her life in more ways than one: if and when she recovers, she’ll be taken back to Stockholm to stand trial for three murders. With the help of her friend, journalist Mikael Blomkvist, she will not only have to prove her innocence, but also identify and denounce those in authority who have allowed the vulnerable, like herself, to suffer abuse and violence. And, on her own, she will plot revenge—against the man who tried to kill her, and the corrupt government institutions that very nearly destroyed her life.

Once upon a time, she was a victim. Now Salander is fighting back.

Critic reviews

“Larsson’s vivid characters, the depth of detail across three books, the powerfully imaginative plot, and the sheer verve of the writing make the trilogy a masterpiece of the genre.” (The Economist)

“The literary equivalent of a caffeine rush. . . . Larsson was one of those rare writers who could keep you up until 3 a.m. and then make you want to rush home the next night to do it again.” (Newsweek)

“Salander is someone you will never forget. . . . Anyone who enjoys grounding their imaginations in hundreds . . . of exciting pages about the way we live now ought to take advantage of this trilogy.” (Chicago Tribune)

One of the best stories ever.

This book is so engaging, I missed my exit while listening to it and didn't realize it for 18 miles! On a route I take weekly. Absolutely wonderful.

A thoroughly satisfying conclusion

Many, many driveway moments in this book. You absolutely must have read the prior two books to understand this book but if you have you will find it very satisfying. The narration is top notch and I am sorry to see the trilogy end.

Stieg Larson is a genius!

The last of Stieg Larson's work featuring some of my favorite characters, Elizabeth Salander and Mikael Blomkvist. The third installment of the "Millenium" series feels to center more on the investigation of what occurred in the previous two books. Simon Vance did a wonderful job narrating the book, keeping me in suspense. If you love a good suspenseful thriller, you will love this book!

A Work of Art

The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet's Nest by Stieg Larsson is a excellent close to the Lisbeth Salander trilogy. Even though she is physically limited in this installment her personality is pervasive throughout and the ultimate conclusion is satisfying indeed. Also, as long as I have been listening to audible books there has never been a narrator better than Simon Vance. His portrayal of these characters made the stories come alive. My most humble appreciation to both Stieg Larsson and Simon Vance.

'3' Cheers for Mr. Larsson. God Bless

If you could sum up The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest in three words, what would they be?

Kept me spellbound.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest?

Never think Lisbeth out of the game no matter how desperate the situation. I was holding my breath during the final confrontation between Lisbeth and Ronald Niederman, thinking ‘no Lisbeth... think of something... think of something’. And she pulled a rabbit out of the hat, so to speak. Spoiler alert!!! When she nailed Niederman’s feet to the floor, my smile was one of those ‘see all my teeth smiles’. Brilliant! Outstanding! Go Lisbeth!!

What does Simon Vance bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Mr. Vance adds depth to the overall experience. I had read the books a couple of years ago, but listening to them, bring the books alive. Thank you Mr. Vance, I shall look forward to hearing from you again!.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I whooped for joy in the last confrantation with Neiderman.
