Publisher's summary

Audie Awards Winner, 2010

The stunning third and final novel in Stieg Larsson’s internationally best-selling trilogy.

Lisbeth Salander—the heart of Larsson’s two previous novels—lies in critical condition, a bullet wound to her head, in the intensive care unit of a Swedish city hospital. She’s fighting for her life in more ways than one: if and when she recovers, she’ll be taken back to Stockholm to stand trial for three murders. With the help of her friend, journalist Mikael Blomkvist, she will not only have to prove her innocence, but also identify and denounce those in authority who have allowed the vulnerable, like herself, to suffer abuse and violence. And, on her own, she will plot revenge—against the man who tried to kill her, and the corrupt government institutions that very nearly destroyed her life.

Once upon a time, she was a victim. Now Salander is fighting back.

Critic reviews

“Larsson’s vivid characters, the depth of detail across three books, the powerfully imaginative plot, and the sheer verve of the writing make the trilogy a masterpiece of the genre.” (The Economist)

“The literary equivalent of a caffeine rush. . . . Larsson was one of those rare writers who could keep you up until 3 a.m. and then make you want to rush home the next night to do it again.” (Newsweek)

“Salander is someone you will never forget. . . . Anyone who enjoys grounding their imaginations in hundreds . . . of exciting pages about the way we live now ought to take advantage of this trilogy.” (Chicago Tribune)

Loved it!

I have read all three books in this series and throughly enjoyed each and everyone. Well worth the time to start at the beginning and listen to all three. Can't wait for another one.

Loved these series!

I listened to the first book in this series, "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo," and at the end thought, "That's it?? This can't be the end!" and then discovered it was a series. I've listened to all three books and thoroughly enjoyed every one of them. The author, reader and translator are all to be commended!

Great Story!

I loved this series and can't wait for the movies in English to come out! Kept my attention, fast paced, it has everything! The only issue I had with this series is the names were difficult to keep straight. Some sounded very similar to me. Once I got past that, I fell in love! Too bad we won't hear more from Mr. Larsson (RIP).

Read these books in order - it is a serial and you won't be able to follow as well if you did not finish the other books.

Couldn't Turn it off!

If you could sum up The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest in three words, what would they be?

Captivating. Exciting. Wonderful.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest?

Hard to say ... the entire story was great...and like all of the books in the trilogy, the story is woven in a most intricate way that keeps me on the edge of my seat.

What about Simon Vance’s performance did you like?

I love hearing Simon read. I've listened to him read for a number of authors, and always enjoy his style. He helps make the story come to life.

Lisbeth Salander come out come out where ever u-r.

I was sorry to see the book come to an end and hope the family differences of the late Steig Larrson can be settled so the series can continue. Some of the sex is over described for my taste, and could be toned down to allow our imaginations fill in the gaps if we wanted to. All of the characters are so well developed and I can see each scene in my mind, which is the result of an excellent writer. Steig, your creativity will be missed.

The Girl Who kicked the hornet's Nest

Very satisfying ending to a riveting trilogy. Lisbeth Salendar is one of the most intriguing heroines of modern literature and Simon Vance, as always reads with perfect inflection and timing.

Best in the Trilogy...

I definitely liked this one the best out of the three. The first two books set everything up, especially the intertwined relationships which are the foundation of this book. The authors characters are so interesting and deep that even though the action in this book is far less by comparison, the story works and really feels fast paced. I don think anyone would enjoy this book out of order. Although I'm not prude, the only down side is the possible over indulgence in sexual immorality and language. It really sets the characters up and defines them, but can get too overbearing at times. There is significantly less in this book however. I enjoyed the series and would recommend it to certain people.
