Publisher's summary

Audie Awards Winner, 2010

The stunning third and final novel in Stieg Larsson’s internationally best-selling trilogy.

Lisbeth Salander—the heart of Larsson’s two previous novels—lies in critical condition, a bullet wound to her head, in the intensive care unit of a Swedish city hospital. She’s fighting for her life in more ways than one: if and when she recovers, she’ll be taken back to Stockholm to stand trial for three murders. With the help of her friend, journalist Mikael Blomkvist, she will not only have to prove her innocence, but also identify and denounce those in authority who have allowed the vulnerable, like herself, to suffer abuse and violence. And, on her own, she will plot revenge—against the man who tried to kill her, and the corrupt government institutions that very nearly destroyed her life.

Once upon a time, she was a victim. Now Salander is fighting back.

Critic reviews

“Larsson’s vivid characters, the depth of detail across three books, the powerfully imaginative plot, and the sheer verve of the writing make the trilogy a masterpiece of the genre.” (The Economist)

“The literary equivalent of a caffeine rush. . . . Larsson was one of those rare writers who could keep you up until 3 a.m. and then make you want to rush home the next night to do it again.” (Newsweek)

“Salander is someone you will never forget. . . . Anyone who enjoys grounding their imaginations in hundreds . . . of exciting pages about the way we live now ought to take advantage of this trilogy.” (Chicago Tribune)

Fantastic

After the first 2 books, I couldn't put this one down till I had finished it, everything I did, I did with earphones on.
The detail of these books is amazing right down to the cheese, coffee and bread bought at the corner shop, and certainly makes you feel like you are in the storjy, with the writer. I enjoyed the reader and his different accents, very entertaining.
If you haven't read the first 2 books then you should.

Best of the trilogy.

What did you like about this audiobook?

Yes. A great conclusion to the trilogy.

How has the book increased your interest in the subject matter?

The trial where the Shrink was ripped to shreds.

Does the author present information in a way that is interesting and insightful, and if so, how does he achieve this?

Elizabeth Salanger of course.

What did you find wrong about the narrator's performance?

Yes, but at 30 chapters it was just too long.

Do you have any additional comments?

One needs to listen to the trilogy in order to get the full benefit on the story. I wish that here were more issues.

Sorry This Is The End!

What made the experience of listening to The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest the most enjoyable?

I liked listening while driving; I occasionally have to drive for an hour one-way to a job.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest?

When Lisbeth's childhood psychiatrist is finally exposed and she is free of him and the 'guardianship system'!

What three words best describe Simon Vance’s performance?

Good. Not great.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When Lisbeth allows Mikael to be her friend (again)!

Any additional comments?

It has to be hard to change your voice with so many characters in the story, but a part of me wonders if that is absolutely necessary.

Again, thank you or pronouncing all the Swedish words, I never would have made it past the first chapter in the first book

Definately

Any additional comments?

Could have done without the job change it was unnecessary and selfish

Truly smart.

I'm not a huge fan of profanity, and if you listen to this book will have to stomach a fair amount, but really it is a brilliant and engaging story.i'd say it was well worth the 50+ hours to complete the trilogy.

Excellent "book"

Would you consider the audio edition of The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest to be better than the print version?

No

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest?

When she was found not guilty and freed, and the psychiatrist is arrested.

What does Simon Vance bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He did a very good job. However, he did not bring anything to the story that I would not experienced from reading the book myself.

Actually, I find this question absurd. Why should one get more out of a book by someone reading to them vs. reading the book themselves.

The advantage of audio books is that they are a convenience and a distraction. E.g., if you are tired and just want to close you eyes and listen.

BTW, they are a great sleep aid.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No, of course not.

Any additional comments?

Best Audible Books in Over 10 Years

What made the experience of listening to The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest the most enjoyable?

I have just finished listening to this 3rd book in the series. I've been an Audible member for over 10 years with 2-4 books/month. I have NEVER been so captivated by an Audible book. As these are expensive, I've always listened while either distance running or doing chores around the house. Needless to say I now run 5miles/day and my house is immaculate. I'm just sorry that this author is no longer with us as no other presentation would ever compete.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest?

The trial at the end

What about Simon Vance’s performance did you like?

I was afraid of not keeping track of all the characters but Mr. Vance's voice changes and accents allowed me to keep up even when the names of the characters were temporarily forgotten

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

I'd never watch the movie as the wonderful details in each book made it u forgettable
