Publisher's summary

Audie Awards Winner, 2010

The stunning third and final novel in Stieg Larsson’s internationally best-selling trilogy.

Lisbeth Salander—the heart of Larsson’s two previous novels—lies in critical condition, a bullet wound to her head, in the intensive care unit of a Swedish city hospital. She’s fighting for her life in more ways than one: if and when she recovers, she’ll be taken back to Stockholm to stand trial for three murders. With the help of her friend, journalist Mikael Blomkvist, she will not only have to prove her innocence, but also identify and denounce those in authority who have allowed the vulnerable, like herself, to suffer abuse and violence. And, on her own, she will plot revenge—against the man who tried to kill her, and the corrupt government institutions that very nearly destroyed her life.

Once upon a time, she was a victim. Now Salander is fighting back.

Critic reviews

“Larsson’s vivid characters, the depth of detail across three books, the powerfully imaginative plot, and the sheer verve of the writing make the trilogy a masterpiece of the genre.” (The Economist)

“The literary equivalent of a caffeine rush. . . . Larsson was one of those rare writers who could keep you up until 3 a.m. and then make you want to rush home the next night to do it again.” (Newsweek)

“Salander is someone you will never forget. . . . Anyone who enjoys grounding their imaginations in hundreds . . . of exciting pages about the way we live now ought to take advantage of this trilogy.” (Chicago Tribune)

Excellent!

I am so going to miss Lisbeth and the other characters in this series! Definitely these should be read in order and maybe more than once! Simon Vance does a great job narrating. I really wish there were more. So much left to find out......

I enjoyed this series immensely

This is the last of the 3 books. It pulls everything together and finally answers all the questions that have come up. It probably took until this book before I really had all the characters figured out...Swedish names are not that easy to remember. I liked the ending. That's probably one of my best things to say. So many good books have terrible endings but this one was all right. Don't forget to start with Book #1...the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. It begins to build the characters.

LOVED IT!!

Would you consider the audio edition of The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest to be better than the print version?

I have both read and listened to this entire series. I prefered the print versions because it was hard to keep track of some of the sweedish names and place names. When you read them, it is easy to differentiate but it can be difficult to pick up on the subtle differences when listening.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Lisbeth Salander - She is so determined and cynical.

Any additional comments?

I loved the entire series - I didn't sleep for days when I read the first two in the series then I had a long drive so I bought this one in audio. The story is great!

Awesome

If you could sum up The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest in three words, what would they be?

This series is by far the best listen I have experienced from
Audible. Larssons story + Simon Vance voice is a top notch combo. I am truly sad that I finally finished the last chapter and now I'm searching for my next series.

What about Simon Vance’s performance did you like?

Everything. He is a amazing narrator.

Best of the Series

In the third installment of the Stieg Larsson series, we find Lisbeth hospitalized, in jail, and with no means of connecting with the outside world...but not for long. Lisbeth's story and those of her friends and enemies continues with intrigue, great character development and growth of emotional intelligence. It isn't necessary to read the first two to enjoy The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest, but you'd be missing two great reads. Simon Vance does an excellend job with giving voice to all the characters. I highly recommend this book and it's two predecessors.

Lizbeth Salander kicks bootie!

I am so sad that there are no more of this series! They have all been amazing. Some of the best written books ever. The narrator is incredible and added to the books and characters. It is really tragic that the author died/ was killed. I hope it is true that his girl friend has the 4th manuscript!

Absolutely loved it...

I fell in love with this series from the start. The quirky character of Lisbeth with her intelligence and poor social skills is beautifully conceived and written. The Swedish locales made the books seem fresh and different and the plotting was extremely well done. The narration was also first rate. It was bittersweet to read the final chapter knowing that it would truly be the end. I have recommended the series to family and friends. No one has been disappointed although many think the first and last books are marginally better than the middle one. They are all really hard to put down. Bravo, Mr. Larsson, and thank you.

Unbelievable!

Dragon Tattoo, Fire, and Hornet Nest all 5 stars for me:
I can not believe it took me so long to find and fall in love with these books. I purchased them back to back and could not get through them fast enough. The story had wonderfully twists and turns that kept you on the edge of your seat. Along with passion, compassion, and wonder for the characters themsleves. Such a sad loss that Steig Larsson is no longer here to write more intriguing novels.

Everything wraps up.

Any additional comments?

Everything wraps up (finally) in this third book of Stieg Larsson's trilogy. As Lisbeth awaits trial for her actions against her father, she is cleared of the murders from book two. Mikael works tirelessly to clear everything up and is the hero of the day. In the end, Lisbeth once again accepts Mikael's friendship. Loved it.
