Publisher's summary

In Paradise, nothing is what it seems....

Army Special Agent John Puller is the best there is. A combat veteran, Puller is the man the U.S. Army relies on to investigate the toughest crimes facing the nation. Now he has a new case - but this time, the crime is personal: His aunt has been found dead in Paradise, Florida.

A picture-perfect town on Florida's Gulf Coast, Paradise thrives on the wealthy tourists and retirees drawn to its gorgeous weather and beaches. The local police have ruled his aunt's death an unfortunate, tragic accident. But just before she died, she mailed a letter to Puller's father, telling him that beneath its beautiful veneer, Paradise is not all it seems to be.

What Puller finds convinces him that his aunt's death was no accident… and that the palm trees and sandy beaches of Paradise may hide a conspiracy so shocking that some will go to unthinkable lengths to make sure the truth is never revealed.

The performance elevates the unique storyline 🎭

After the story unfolds it all makes sense, but in the moment, the story was a little unbelievable at times. Certain actions hard to believe the characters would be taking the risk exactly as stated. But the performance was off the charts excellent; and elevates this unique storyline 🎭 turning it into a great book!

Forget the Sound Effects!

Overall a good book..........will probably go back and read the first one in the series. A bit impausible in spots.............a General participating in a "breaking and entering" to help out a friend????

Sound effects were annoying but most of all, the female voices were beyond irritating. Each one was worse than the last one. I have heard other narrations by Orlagh Cassidy where she is using her natural voice and they are fine......obviously she has a problem with multiple characters.

Bad things in paradise

Puller is at it again but he doesn't have the Army to back him up. It was mystery, drama, murder all rolled into one very good story. Some of the characters could have benefited from a little buffing out but over all it was great. The only flaw I found was that the ending was a little predictable. I was disappointed when I figured out who, what, and why long before the story was over. I still recommend the book because it was fun and the subject matter should be brought to the attention of the public.

Good, but not his best

What made the experience of listening to The Forgotten the most enjoyable?

This is a slower paced book by Baldacci. The story was interesting, enjoyable, and had some fun plot twists...but its pace was slow and the story didn't really hit its stride until late in the book.

How close to the truth does Baldacci write?

Twist and turns made it an "under the covers" listen. 12 hour flight was no ordeal at all

Great Book

I'm not sure what everyone is complaining about. I like the sound effects. I like the additional investment in storytelling that they add. Just enough to draw you in to the intensity of the story, but not enough to distract from the unfolding plot.

As far as this particular book, I think David Baldacci is an excellent writer, however the continuation of three book series that continues to place the main charter outside his / her normal duties does seem repetitive. I do like the addition of strong supporting female characters and the limited focus on sexual interaction that seems to be the main focus of many other authors. Aside from the repetitiveness mention this series by itself is a great read and / or listen!

As for the narrators they do and excellent job! The use of duel narration is a fantastic use of the variation between the masculine and feminine voice, which can prove dogmatic is some single voice narrated volumes.

Great entertainment

The book was a turn pager but the hero is not to believable at times. When you don't looose a step after 3 bullet wounds a lot of the realism rubs off. I also asked why an unwounded women who grew up on water in Miami and rode paddle boards couldn't pilot a boat to the oil rig. I guess capable women don't equal a macho man.

Never a dull moment

John Puller's twists & turns always keeps me engaged and a bit sorry when story ends. I rush to find the next in the series.
