    "Engaging"

A completely engaging read that I devoured in two days.

The First Lie is described as a paranormal mystery, but it is so much more. It's a journey of self-discovery entwining folklore with friendships, spirituality with suspense, art with abusive relationships, deceit with denial and romance with ran-out-of-alliterations. It's funny and spooky and kept my turning the pages.

I liked Selkie. She was quirky (though she would have hated me calling her that) and surrounded by a cast of interesting characters.

I listened to the audiobook, which I received free in exchange for an honest review. The narrator was fantastic and well suited to the book. She spoke clearly with an international accent that was easy to listen to. She brought each of the characters to life with authentic accents from around the world. I found her pace perfect and didn't need to speed up the audio.

"It really is a book with a difference and simply c"
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I do think it is a book that will appeal to some and they will love it or others may read and just not 'get it' .. I'm glad I did.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The First Lie?

The whole fear of the ocean and history of the seals was intriguing .. it really is a book with a difference and simply charming. A journey of discovery, it paints a lovely picture of Hawaii and has left me wanting to read the next in the series.

Which scene did you most enjoy?

I was absorbed all the way and particularly like the elements of Selkie seeking her darkside/dead mother. It was quite eerie in places, she hears voices, music and 'sees' a lady - but she has some wonderfully supportive friends.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

There is so much tension, Selkie escapes from an abusive relationship and relocates in Hawaii .. there is a lot of folklore, some colourful characters and plenty of adventure.

Yes, it does have a paranormal twist but ultimately I would say it is a mystery/thriller with a hauntingly quaint backdrop.

    Any additional comments?

I came across this book when I was actually doing a different guest post with the lovely author on my blog. I was attracted by the cover, fell in love with the name Selkie Moon but subconsciously I think the 'paranormal' genre part prevented me jumping straight in. I started it, got a little way then stopped due to a tight schedule on other books then went back to it .... well after a few chapters I was then reeled in!
I purchased and listened to this on audiobook and the narration was compelling with an Australian accent which highlighted the experience.
