I couldn't stop rolling my eyes.

I understand that Mr. Sanders was an extremely prolific writer in his time, which was the mid 20th century. I looked him up on Wikipedia and saw that he wrote several series, and that some of his work made its way to TV and movies. But, I can't understand the hype. This book is unbelievable trash. It is parochial, outdated Manhattan posturing. Everything west of the Hudson is Pittsburgh, don't you know. The characters have sex with sunglasses on and then with African masks. Herewith I give you a few lines of the deathless dialogue:
"I get lost whenever I go below 23rd Street." "He was pleased to discover that she liked long-stemmed roses." "The room smelled of must, mildew and old love." Oh, please. I listened to several hours, at different times, just to see if my first impression was wrong. It wasn't. The mystery never did appear through four chapters, and the thing is three downloads long. The narration was likewise ponderous and totally without humor of any kind, not even a sly wink. These people, and the author himself, take themselves way too seriously. Our hero works in the magazine biz, and of course he instantly crushes the competition and rises to the top with a computer which he installs in a clean room, complete with workers who must wear hair nets and gloves. He takes over the magazine by the age of thirty six. In New York City! Good lord. On what planet was this book written?

Disgusting!

I am sorry I do not share the many reviews of this being a great mystery. I am only in the second part of download but am unable to go on. Sorry I got this one. Someone should have mentioned the sexual nature of the book.

Boring

I couldn't get past the fifth chapter. Talk about too much detail! Very slow. Will seek a refund!

Horrible Narrator

What disappointed you about The First Deadly Sin?

I couldn't get through the first chapter because the narrator was so dry. Total waste of money.

Worst book to date

Listened to four chapters without a plot or purpose. Good writers show, bad ones tell. If you like useless details without a connection to the story, this is the book for you. Main character is a Mary-sue, so don’t waste you money or time on a bad book

Not too impressed...

Any additional comments?

I was looking for a new author (I've listened to all of Connelly, Patterson...) and I realize the importance of character development - but so far I'm over an hour into this and nothing has happened....

I've never been so bored in my life.

I can't believe I wasted my credit on this! I have spent a week trying to get intrested in this and I give up. I made it to chapter 6, was so bored I wanted to stab myself in the eye with a pencil. I hated the narrator, I hated the characters, I mean for the love of all that is holy we are 6 chapters into this and no one has died yet, except maybe the readers of bordem. I really had no idea from the description that this was set in the 70's, I've lived through the 70's it wasn't that great why in heavens name would I want to read about it. Unless you are suffering from insomnia I wouldn't recommend that you purchase this snoozer.

This Book Sucks

Would you try another book from Lawrence Sanders and/or Marc Vietor?

NOT a Chance

Would you ever listen to anything by Lawrence Sanders again?

No WAY

Which character ??? as performed by Marc Vietor ??? was your favorite?

any are good - too bad he is associated with such a bad author.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Disgust for the author

Any additional comments?

This may have been a decent story - but the author is addicted to lists - he can't go more that a few minutes with one showing up. On top of that the book goes porographic near the end of the first section - homosexual pediphilia. Not what I paid for!!!!

Excessive, unnecessary detail

What would have made The First Deadly Sin better?

I've never deleted a book so quickly. I probably should have given it more time, but I couldn't get past the first three chapters. There were only two real scenes of actions. All the rest of it was mostly unnecessary detail - even discussing how one character no longer has as much diarrhea since his divorce. That would be relevant if the story was about his wife poisoning him, but it's not. If you've ever read Moby Dick, imagine the chapter on the anatomy of a whale was two chapters longer. Moby Dick is an excellent story, this is not. I'm returning it as soon as I'm done writing this review. Save your credit.
