Publisher's summary

In this classic sixth novel in the award-winning Myron Bolitar series, number one New York Times best-selling author Harlan Coben delivers a riveting, powerhouse thriller featuring one of the most fascinating and complex heroes in all of suspense fiction. Here is a twisting mystery of betrayal, family secrets, and murder filled with the sly humor, dead-on dialogue, and unforgettable characters that have made Harlan Coben one of today’s must-listen suspense authors.

For Myron Bolitar, sports agent and reluctant sleuth, it was a long-needed vacation. A tropical beach. A warm breeze. A little uncomplicated passion with a woman he hardly knows. But, most of all, a chance to clear his head after the death of a close friend. It almost works - until his fiercely loyal, if sometimes morally challenged, friend Win shows up with a message that blasts Myron back to New York...and reality. Esperanza, Myron’s best friend and partner at MB Sportsrep, has been arrested for the murder of a client, a fallen baseball star attempting a comeback. Myron is determined to prove Esperanza’s innocence. But she isn’t speaking. And neither is her lawyer, except to say that Myron would do best to keep his distance, lest he hurt her case.

Only Myron is already too close to the case to back away. For 12 years ago a young agent tried to help an up-and-coming athlete. It was a fatal mistake - and now Myron may have to pay the price. To solve a case as bizarre as it is difficult, Myron will be obliged to view it from the strangest angles: a transsexual nightclub, a baseball owner with a long-lost daughter, a dubious drug test, an impossible murder scene, and a computer disk with the image of a disintegrating girl. But most bizarre of all is that as he tries to unearth, Myron’s own investigation points to only one other suspect: himself...as this spellbinding novel twists, jolts, and careens towards its dazzling finish.

As good as expected.

Would you listen to The Final Detail again? Why?

Not now but probably sometimes in the future when I've listened to all Harlan Coben books.

Too much sappy cultural philosophical BS

I really wanted to fast forward through some of the alternative sex culture dialog. Not because it was offensive but just because a five minute cat and mouse Q&A with a possible cross-dresser about whether he/she has a penis or a vagina is just completely self-indulgent on the part of the author and completely boring to anyone who isn't either a homophobe or an insecure member of the LGBT community. Keep the plot moving and keep the navel-gazing and penis worship to a minimum. What's-her-name with the mystery sex organ was a throw-away character inserted only for that awkward conversation. It is well established that Myron will fall into bed with anyone who looks marginally attractive. He has no chaste inclinations and very limited loyalties toward his temporary sex partners. He claims to want to settle down but doesn't do anything but follow his nether pointer. Which will never lead him to the kind of woman who wants to take on a family. So stop pretending.

Corben Fan

I love Harlan Corben's books. I haven't found one I don't like. I have issues with his narrators though. In my opinion the narrator from "Long Lost" fits Corben's writing best. However I will still buy his books because I love his writing.

Can't stop listening, but rolling my eyes

I've been bingeing all the books in the series and color me impressed; however, Myron seems to be regressing. Starting in book 3, Myron seems to be stuck on stupid.... Doing and saying things that don't make sense. Too emotional to make smart decisions. With that said, definitely worth

Excellent suspense thriller

The plot of The Final Detail is more complex than necessary, but the novel kept me guessing until the end. In my view is is one of the weaker novels in the mostly 5 star Myron Bolitar series. Even so, it is an excellent novel. Narration is excellent.

One of my favorites

The colorful characters, Batman analogies, quick witted dialogue, comedic approach, admiration of family and friends, Dynamic Duo of MB and Winn, make this book a quick page turner;
While navigating the fuzzy lines between right and wrong.

The Unpredictable Final Details

I loved the humor that both Win and Myron pass between each other and in Myron’s private thoughts. I laughed a lot while driving to work each morning. I can never guess what the ending will be. So many twists and turns keep your attention throughout the story.
