Publisher's summary

From John Wilkes Booth to Lee Harvey Oswald, there have been more than two dozen assassination attempts on the president of the United States. Four have been successful. But now, Beecher White - the hero of the number one New York Times best seller The Inner Circle - discovers a killer in Washington, D.C., who's meticulously re-creating the crimes of these four men. Historians have branded them as four lone wolves. But what if they were wrong?

Beecher is about to discover the truth: that during the course of a hundred years, all four assassins were secretly working together. What was their purpose? For whom do they really work? And why are they planning to kill the current president? Beecher's about to find out. And most terrifyingly, he's about to come face-to-face with the fifth assassin.

The Inner Circle Strikes Back!

As my rating would suggest, I am a fan of Brad's storytelling and attention to detail, interweaving the often forgotten historical facts of our Nation with a gripping story with rich characters. Perhaps Brad is a member of some long forgotten secret society? He certainly deserves to be a new soldier of the Culper Ring.

No spoilers here. If you enjoyed Inner Circle, immediately jump into The Fifth Assassin. Scott Brick's narration is warm and like butter to my ears. I look forward to reading or listening to the next installment: Return of the Culper Ring, whoops... I mean, The President's Shadow.

finally got through it

started by reading the actual book a while back, couldn't get through it with all the flashbacks past and present. Had to put it down very difficult to follow. Then I decided to listen on audible. Didn't know it was the second in a series so that might have helped me if I'd read that one first. Very hard to follow seemed very disjointed- the character Creacher was like dugh??? the ending was a ugh? I guess the next book will help with the "what just happened here ending" Don't think I'll pick up the next one. this was a struggle to get through although I did.

Lost my interest on this one...

I love the premise of this book. I enjoyed the first one in this series. From the ending, I know that there is to be another book in this series. I was bored with this installment. I doubt that I will by the next in this series.I love Scott Brick as a narrator. He always does an excellent job.

Never a Dull Moment

Almost every time I tried to predict what would happen next, I was wrong. Meltzer writes a great story of political intrigue and power. I need a good guy, plum line of integrity. But Beecher has weaknesses, doubts, and makes mistakes, a fully developed personality.
Except for his putting himself in so much danger, I’d be proud to have him as a grandson.

Very good follow-up to The Inner Circle

Really enjoyed this second book in the series. There are a free times where the characters seem overly hard headed, but Brad does that in almost all of his books. Really looking forward to the third book in the series.
