Tucked away in the beautiful mountains of New Mexico.
I enjoyed the first book of this series so much that I bought book 2 and book 3. I wasn't as enamored of book 2. It was action packed, the story line was just a bit off and Victor wasn't acting as much like the Victor of book 1. And spoiler alert…book 3 put me off the series.
No wasted credit here, just not what I had hoped for given the strength of book 1.
I.M.H.O. this is by far the BEST action/thriller series out there! I'm sure you guys have read the summary so I won't get into describing the plot. I will tell you that the writer(Tom Hinshlewood) is extremely under-rated and deserves to be mentioned in the same breath with all the other "household names" in the A/T genre. I will say that this is a very well written action-packed book 2 in the not-to-well-known "Victor The Assassin" series. Some reviewers have mentioned that they wanted more "character growth" from the protagonist and I respect their opinions however I feel as a character "Victor's" developing quite nicely so far and he definitely has more personality in this installment than he did in book 1. He's an assassin after all, how much character is the guy suppose to have? Some of you might strongly disagree with me on this but I think this series is even BETTER than the "Gray Man" series. There's definitely no "sophomore slump" here! I cannot recommend this series enough. Check it out!
History, historical fiction and mysteries are my faves, but a fan of all genres.
Set in Bucharest to start, luv the settings used in these stories. Can't wait to wade into the rest of this series.
probably not. I really enjoyed it the first time and the time listening flew by. But once you know what happens and how, I think the thrill would be gone.
easy to listen to, the characters all were different, I would gladly listen to him again.
a good action/spy type read. Kept me interested till the end.
The author's attention to detail is the most enjoyable aspect of this series. The assassin doesn't just pick up a gun and shoot. We learn the type of gun, type of ammo, characteristics of both and the reasons for using both. If you're not into that level of detail, this book isn't for you. I also love the details of the counterespionage Victor uses at all times.
The narrator was flawless given the multiple accents required although Victor sounded a little flip at times which goes against my perception of a lethal assassin.
Mr. Wood does such a great job of writing his characters that you are suck into the story. I like that he seemed to give a conscious and a soul to his handler at the CIA, something few authors do. He also does a nice job of moving the story along with lots of action but it doesn't feel like it is forced or contrived but flows naturally. I couldn't wait to find out what happened next but also didn't want the book to end. Mr. Shapiro does a great job with voices, inflection and speed.
Yes. Super story, moves right along. There are no dull moments, lots of high tension that keeps you on the edge of your seat.
Never listened to Rob Shapiro before "The Killer", the first in this series. He reminds me alot of Scott Brick. His performance was excellent.
I've listened to two in a row and my next will be the third. I sure hope Tom Wood will write another one soon. Victor is an assassin with morals, he's smart and cunning and even if some scenes are a little far reaching this is fiction and thoroughly enjoyable. If you like Court Gentry, Jake Pendleton or Dewey Andreas then this book is the perfect addition to your collection.
I am an attorney and author in Jefferson City, MO.
If you liked The Killer, you'll love the Enemy. It's a tight tale, with lots of twists and turns, and with some really excellent plotting. Set in Europe, it provides descriptions and settings in places that I can only hope of getting to someday. I have really enjoyed the series, and the highest compliment I can pay a writer is "WHERE IS BOOK 3?" And that's what I want to know: when will I get to read the next of Tom Wood's Victor stories.
I enjoy counter-terrorism, westerns, historical fiction, detective mysteries, and old school comedy like "A Christmas Story".
Read my review of Book 1! I loved this new addition to suspense! This is totally worth the money!
