Publisher's summary

Harry Bosch has been given three years before he must retire from the LAPD, and he wants cases more fiercely than ever. In one morning, he gets two.

DNA from a 1989 rape and murder matches a 29-year-old convicted rapist. Was he an eight-year-old killer, or has something gone terribly wrong in the new Regional Crime Lab? The latter possibility could compromise all of the lab's DNA cases currently in court.

Then Bosch and his partner are called to a death scene fraught with internal politics. Councilman Irvin Irving's son jumped or was pushed from a window at the Chateau Marmont. Irving, Bosch's longtime nemesis, has demanded that Harry handle the investigation.

Relentlessly pursuing both cases, Bosch makes two chilling discoveries: a killer operating unknown in the city for as many as three decades, and a political conspiracy that goes back into the dark history of the police department.

Impressed? Ace detective Harry Bosch is also on the case in other exciting Michael Connelly crime-fiction novels.

My new favorite Bosch... maybe.

In one moment I could easily call this the best Bosch book yet, and that is quickly followed by the many previous Bosch stories I may have loved more. I have reviewed every book to this point -- all over the past 3 or 4 weeks so there is very little to say about Harry that I haven't said yet. He is my favorite character in a long time. Many years ago I couldnt get enough of Kay Scarpetta -- Bosch is my new Kay.

Michael Connelly writes with tension in the story, the dialogue and the character. The stories are always quick, taut and surprising. He is a master at weaving a mystery and keeping the reader guessing. This book continues this theme.

I continue to love Len Cariou's voicing of Harry Bosch. He speaks the dialogue with a very direct and determined tone which is directly on point.

Connelly's Best Bosch Book... Ever

Solid sparse writing. Fast moving plot. This is my favorite Connelly book with Harry Bosch. One of the best books in this genre I've listened to in a very long time. Cariou's performance is good, too. Five stars all around.

Typical Connelly - Solid Solid Solid

I've been reslistening to the old Harry Bosch books when Dick Hill was the narrator - so it's not fair to compare Len Cariou to him...but Harry and Jack Reacher both have the same voice to me...

Otherwise this is a great book - engaging early and doesn't feel forced (which is amazing considering how many Bosch books are out there now). But anything Connelly does is an instant classic for me...and this one doesn't disappoint.

Great Bosch book, doesn't disappoint

I liked that there were 2 death's to solve in this book, It brought a new spin to things and kept it interesting. There is a new twist to character relationships in this book that was good for future stories. Len Carious does a great job narrating for Bosch.

Another great read from Michael Connely!

What made the experience of listening to The Drop the most enjoyable?

The Character growth through the series gives the sense that you are growing to know them in a personal way.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

As with all of the Harry Bosch, and Mickie Haller series books, Mr Connely keeps you guessing until the very end!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I wish I had the time to sit for that long! This book kept me wanting to get back to it every time I had to step away.

Bosch

Where does The Drop rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I love Bosch and this is definitely one of my favorites! Don't remember if I knew about his daughter before. Where did she come from? She adds a nice dimension.
