Publisher's summary

Ex-Baltimore cop turned special-ops shooter Joe Ledger is back in action.

In The Dragon Factory, Ledger and his team from the Department of Military Sciences square off against two separate groups of corrupt scientists. The beautiful but twisted Jakoby Twins are creating transgenic monsters and genetically enhanced mercenaries for sale to the highest bidder. Their father, who takes evil to an entirely new level, is using cutting-edge science to complete the Nazi master-race program.

Joe must elude the NSA who are gunning for him, fight his way past rogue Spetsnaz teams, and stop these madmen before the Extinction Clock runs out. And when the bloodbath claims one of his own, Joe Ledger declares total war on those people who would burn down the world in order to reshape it in their own dark image.

Take another thrill ride with Joe Ledger.

Critic reviews

“In Stoker-winner Maberry’s wild second Joe Ledger novel, Joe and his comrades from the Department of Military Science take on enough villains and their world-threatening plots to fill half a dozen ordinary thrillers.” ( Publishers Weekly)

Brialliant as Ever.

Where does The Dragon Factory rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Right at the top, along with everything else Mr Maberry has written.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

I listen to audiobooks when exercising or when doing housework, as a reward to myself for doing stuff I hate. Let's just say a lot of things got cleaned in record time while listening to this book :)

Have you listened to any of Ray Porter’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I'm familiar with Mr Porter, and I must say he's one of my favourite narrators. He's great at accents, at character, at everything. Love him.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Just watch it.

Any additional comments?

On to the third book!

Loved Every Minute

Would you listen to The Dragon Factory again? Why?

No, but only because I don't listen twice after I know the plot, and not because it wasn't a great book.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Yes. Mayberry writes a nicely plotted thriller, with overlapping but separate elements. Ray Porter kills it as the narrator and adds to the suspense. It can get slightly predictable, but any action thriller will be, and this book is less predictable than most.

Which scene was your favorite?

My favorite scene would spoil the plot.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Yes, but again, putting it in my review would be a spoiler.

Any additional comments?

Look, so maybe a little suspension of belief is required to really enjoy these Joe Ledger novels. But WHO CARES. I thoroughly enjoy both Mayberry as an author and Ray Porter absolutely rocks as the narrator.

Story is beyond amazing.

I don't even know how to establish this. This is the third time I have listened. The THIRD time. And every time is amazing. The story is amazing.....the narrator is a GOD! I bow down.....absolutely bow down.

I can't believe they killer her!

Not very often can an author get away with killing off a main character but they did it! The narrator was awesome in this book and the story was interesting and well developed. I can't wait to read the rest of the books in the series and maybe all the Jonathan Mayberry books.

Top notch!

This is what happens when you take great writing and combine it with a fantastic narrator! Joe Ledger should be in movies, it’s that good! I picture him as John Cena, only better looking. Top would be a younger more muscular Denzel Washington. Bunny would be a more rugged version of Henry Cavill. I would pay to see that movie! I read the first Joe Ledger book, Patient Zero, years ago and liked it. But I have to say that listening to this second book with Ray Porter narrating was even better. The story is solid. The dialog is realistic and rings true. The pacing is never slow or plodding even though it’s more than 16 hours long. I would highly recommend this to anyone who likes Mission Impossible type action adventure with an attitude!

Evil oozes out your Earphones

I was expecting ZOMBIES. JONATHAN MABERRY is a master zombie world builder, but he crafts an equally horrific threat to humanity. If you thought that zombies being unleashed on the capital was bad, now Joe Ledger has to track down Pure Evil. Nazi Doctor throw-backs tinker with everything from the ideal human to Dr. Morrow's worst nightmare. No one is safe, but knowing Joe is on the job makes me feel better.

RAY PORTER is masterful in this complex world of accents and all levels of crazy. The key is that he captures Ledger's alpha huskiness with a light inflection to capture his playful nature. He breathes creepy, evil and psychotic into all the crazies that are trying to make sure the Extinction Clock reaches zero. MABERRY and PORTER bring you a modern-day War of the World experience. I expect that I'll continue the series on audio.

Evil unfettered.

I like the characters. The vice president must have forgotten how Joe's team saved his wife. Ray Porter does a GREAT job. A bit of an unbelievable tale, though.
