Publisher's summary

Ex-Baltimore cop turned special-ops shooter Joe Ledger is back in action.

In The Dragon Factory, Ledger and his team from the Department of Military Sciences square off against two separate groups of corrupt scientists. The beautiful but twisted Jakoby Twins are creating transgenic monsters and genetically enhanced mercenaries for sale to the highest bidder. Their father, who takes evil to an entirely new level, is using cutting-edge science to complete the Nazi master-race program.

Joe must elude the NSA who are gunning for him, fight his way past rogue Spetsnaz teams, and stop these madmen before the Extinction Clock runs out. And when the bloodbath claims one of his own, Joe Ledger declares total war on those people who would burn down the world in order to reshape it in their own dark image.

Take another thrill ride with Joe Ledger.

Critic reviews

“In Stoker-winner Maberry’s wild second Joe Ledger novel, Joe and his comrades from the Department of Military Science take on enough villains and their world-threatening plots to fill half a dozen ordinary thrillers.” ( Publishers Weekly)

strange propaganda

Let me start by saying this book, author and narrator are all top notch. This is my second time going thru the ledger series. I am catching the strange propaganda that Maberry is laying down. Other than the fact that ledger is a physcopath who is always murdering people with a lust for it. Its buisness as usual. I listend to Cave 19 before starting the series over. In that one he mentions that people who don't want vaccines and say it's their right not to have any are not good people pretty much. Then in this one he is saying cloned nazis are responsible for creation of the HIV virus. First of all there is plenty of very credible evidence that pharmaceutical companies and people like fauchi are responsible for the creatoin and spread of the HIV virus not cloned nazis. Just so happens some of the same exact people that are in charge of the gene therapy experiments or "vaccinations" that we see being pushed hard today. He also keeps towing the line in the previous book that muslim terrorists are responsible for the towers and building 7 on you can guess which day. With as much research as he does for these books, you would think that he has seen the overwhelming evidence that says that's a bogus narrative, but he's still pushing the propaganda. Maybe he is being paid to tow that line. Maybe he is a true believer idk either way he is a great author, and I'm sad to have these realizations.

As good as the first

I totally enjoyed Jonathan Maberry preposterous storyline! And how the characters seem to take anything -- dismemberment, explosions, mad scientists -- in stride. I love how, in the middle of an outlandish scene, there will be a totally matter of fact conversation. The evil twins, for example, discussing whether they are Evil Monsters or not as if they were discussing whether they were popular in high school. Keep it coming, Mr. Maberry! And keep reading, Mr. Porter. A truly spectacular performance.

Decent followup to the first

Where does The Dragon Factory rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Not particularly high. It's a good book within the Joe Ledger series, but the series (including the characters) and the author make it what it is.

What did you like best about this story?

I'm probably going to seem cruel, but the demise of a particular character was the best part for me. I'm hoping it will make future tales more bearable.

Aside from that, the scenes in the Twins labs were pretty cool. I liked what they were able to do with their genetic talents.

What does Ray Porter bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Ray Porter is just an awesome narrator. His voice and tone perfectly match Ledger's personality. I couldn't imagine anyone else reading him.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I was a bit joyous of the ending.

Any additional comments?

Not as great as the first, but a solid story that didn't fall into the trap of blindly rehashing what made the first great.

Just FUN!

Would you consider the audio edition of The Dragon Factory to be better than the print version?

I didn't read this book (only listened to it) but if I were going to bet, I'd bet that the audio version is better than the print version if only because Ray Porter brings every character to life with his amazing talent.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Joe Ledger...because he's just so cool.

What about Ray Porter’s performance did you like?

I would listen to Ray Porter read anything. He is terrific!

OMG!! Maberry hit another homerun with this one.

I loved "Patient Zero" the first installment of the Joe Ledger saga. Wow I think this one was even better. Joe Ledger is a character you can't help but love. The action scenes are so vivid that you can see and almost feel every punch, kick, stab, jab and gun shot. This action keeps my husband from falling asleep at the wheel. We find ourselves laughing a lot too. Humor in the midst of chaos. We travel for business so we have a lot of hours to listen. Ray Porter does the voices so well that you always know who is talking without being told. There was one point where there was a long history lesson and I found myself drifting for a minute but the rest of the story well makes up for it. I just downloaded book three. Can't wait to hear more about Joe Ledger and the Department of Military Science!!

Couldn't stop listening!

Loved it! This book will keep you on the edge of your seat. I really enjoyed the narrator's tones with the changes of moods and the elaborate descriptions to set scenes.
