Publisher's summary

When Navy Commander Robert Bellamy is assigned to investigate the crash of a NATO weather balloon near an isolated village in Switzerland, he is told that its cargo includes new and highly classified equipment. All witnesses to the accident should therefore be found and questioned. However, as Bellamy conducts his search he begins to suspect that he too is being hunted by an unknown lethal force, and that what he was told about the balloon is only part of an almost unbelievable event. From Washington to London, Zurich, Rome, and Paris, the story unfolds to reveal Bellamy's past : why the woman he loves the most cannot return his love; why his friends become his deadly enemies; and why the world must never learn the incredible secret hidden in the Swiss Alps. Here is Sidney Sheldon at his best as the master of the unexpected.

Modern day sci-fi thriller

This book was a departure for Sidney Sheldon, who is usually known for plots involving romanance and adult drama. This, however, is a story worthy of the "X files", and a very good one, too. A mixture of sci-fi and intrigue, the plot moves quickly along and is loaded with action. Fans of sci-fi and suspense will like this one.

An amazing story but a horrible narration

If you could sum up The Doomsday Conspiracy in three words, what would they be?

Thrilling, fast-paced, exciting

What didn’t you like about David Dukes’s performance?

This says it is narrated by "David Duke" but the narrator is a female and not David Duke. The narrator of this book (not Duke) was so monotone throughout the novel. She could have given such a great performance with the material but it just failed. Even when there were multiple voices within dialogue it was just so bland. It's a shame.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It's throughly entertaining but, I hate to say it on an audiobook site, but read the book instead of listening to this narration.

Slow Down!

The reading of this book is done in such a speed that left me breathless! It is very hard to enjoy the flow of the story with such a hurry. The sentences are pasted together and there is no rhythm to the text, making if much more difficult that the story deserves, being such a nice novel. The story, on the other hand, is very enjoyable, a very fun Sidney Sheldon book that changes the normal leading lady from the other books to a male spy running around the world in a global conspiracy!

Great Story, Not Read by David Dukes

A well known procedural international crime thriller, Sidney Sheldon's famous novel is worth reading and listening to. As far as this recording goes, however, I was just surprised the performance was by someone other than listed in the credits.

Not David Dukes

Could not get beyond chapter 1. Female narrator spoke too fast in a monotone voice without any emotion at all. First audio book I could listen to!

Engaging.

I loved the final spy gone rogue moments. Another enthralling piece from a master storyteller.

The worst narration ever!

This has got to be the worst narrated story on Audible. What a pity though as the story was quite interesting.

I cannot recommend this.

First Sheldon I've Read

I just did not enjoy this book, I was really expecting something better. It was slow, contrived, the main character was not empathetic and was whiney. It will be a long time before I try another Sheldon book.
