Publisher's summary

The Iranian effort to develop nuclear weapons was the inspiration for this tale of spies, assassination, skullduggery, military action, and political intrigue.

Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is the Devil's Disciple, and he has a plan. With 12 nuclear warheads mounted on 12 missiles, he will make Iran a martyr nation; then he will lead the world's Muslims in a holy war against Western civilization. It is up to Jake Grafton and Tommy Carmellini to save the world as we know it from the clutches of Islamic fascist fanatics.

As hot as today's headlines, The Disciple is Stephen Coonts at the top of his game. Spies, soldiers, scholars, fighter pilots, patriots, traitors, presidents, and ayatollahs are all here within the pages of The Disciple. Not since Cuba has Coonts written a novel as big and bold as this, a novel that catches the dreams and aspirations of a nation.

The Narrator Ruined This Book

I adored prior Tommy Carmellini audiobooks so gladly bought this one, thinking a different narrator wouldn't matter. Boy was I wrong! This narrator is terrible. Getting through this book was like wading through hip deep peanut butter. If you liked the earlier Tommy C books, my recommendation is to purchase this one as a regular book and read it the old fashioned way. You'll enjoy it a LOT more.

this was almost impossible to finish

What would have made The Disciple better?

A less predictible story line would have been nice. the whole story was disorganized and seemed forced.

What could Stephen Coonts have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

connect the players better and made things more believeable.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Disciple?

The plot to hide the anti radar system this made no sence and never went anywhere.

Any additional comments?

poor read. save your money on this one

Worst reader EVER.

I am soooo disappointed in the choice of Eric G. Dove to read this book. His accents are aweful. His pronunciations are worse (ie. SABO is not the pronunciation of SABOT), he reads too slow.

Dennis Boutsikaris IS Tommy Carmellini.

If Eric G. Dove is continues to read for this series, then I for one will not be buying the next installment.

A Big Disappointment

The book itself is in keeping with the rest of the Jake Grafton and Michael Carmolini series. The Narrator was terrible. It was hard to get into the book. Why did you all mess with a winning combination of story line and important narrator. the Narrator took a good book and made it terrible!!!

I wanted to like this . . .

. . . . but as the heart of the book unfolded, I found it rich in fantasy. Other authors such as Richard North Patterson keep it real. Coonts had our heros in this novel roaming in and out of Iranian government offices with impunity, applying only a shoestring of planning. Perhaps it is just that easy, but I think not, and I believe most readers would agree. Iran may be out of touch with mainstream politics and human rights, but Ahmadinejad and his security minions are not stupid!

The Disciple started strong for me, but quickly became anything but the advertised "As hot as today's headlines" . . . the story descended into wishfull thinking rather than a crescendo of believable story telling.

READER IS TERRIBLE

What would have made The Disciple better?

I can't really rate this book because the reader is so awful I can't get past Chapter 4

How could the performance have been better?

How about not reading in a monotone?
