After finding the ruins of a Mayan temple - and saving the world from a terrorist attack - in One Rough Man, Pike Logan has been given the chance to rejoin the Taskforce, a top-secret counterterrorist organization that operates outside the bounds of US law. But before he becomes an operator again, he’s determined to get Jennifer Cahill into the Taskforce as well, though no one else seems willing to give a female civilian a shot. Jennifer herself would rather focus on setting up their new company, Grolier Recovery Services, an archaeological research agency that Pike hopes will also serve as a sophisticated cover for future Taskforce missions. When Grolier receives its first job offer to check out a site in Roswell, New Mexico, Jennifer convinces Pike to go. But once they arrive it’s clear that there’s a lot more going on than a simple search for Indian artifacts, and uncovering the secrets carefully guarded out in the desert could not only cost them their future with the Taskforce, but their very lives.

I love espionage, legal, and detective thrillers but listen to most genres. Very frequent reviews. No plot spoilers! Please excuse my typos!
One Rough Man, the first Pike Logan novel by Brad Taylor was released early in 2011, showed real promise for the new espionage thriller author and former US special forces lieutenant colonel. The audiobook suffered from poor narration. The Dig, the first Pike Logan short story, made two important and valuable changes. The first was the recruitment of Jennifer Cahill onto the Taskforce. The second one was new narrators for the audiobook. All of Taylor's books are written partially in first person Pike Logan and partially third person. Rich Orlow became the voice of Pike Logan and Henry Strozier became the third person narrator. The Orlow and Strozier duo have continued as narrators. They are terrific!
With the mid-year 2016 release of of Ghosts of War novel the Pike Logan series will be 10 novels and 5 short stories. The quality of the books has remained consistently high. The frequent rate of new releases of novels in a series, 10 in six years, is unusual for a top tier thriller author. Most such authors release one novel annually (in some cases less than one per year).
The Dig also makes another major change as Pike Logan goes from government employee to government contractor when he and Cahill start Grolier Recovery Services in Charleston SC to serve as a cover company for government espionage contracting.
Although The Dig is a short story the changes therein are major elements in setting up the series for it future excellence and success. The story is Book 1.5 in the series
Go back to the narrators from the first book in the series..
Emotionless, poor book "acting"...just grating..
This short story provides both a Pike and Jennifer adventure and more background to how Pike was able to get Jennifer into the selection process. It also touches on the footing their relationship is build on. A nice little short story that adds more to understanding the characters and the foundation of the series.
The first book had such great narrators, why in God's name would you change!!??!!
Once guy sounds like he's 80 years old and the other really young. Does not mesh will at all!! I'm going to return the 3rd book I purchased without listening to it and won't purchase any more unless they use the original narrators.
No, didn't like the narrators.
They were not the first pair and one of them is too old for an action book.
Go back to the original narrators!!!
I enjoy the Pike stories, just not the two narrators that perform the readings. I wish they would stick with just one narrator instead of the two person format. The short story was good in that it continues the developing odd relationship between Pike and Jennifer, which I found entertaining.
These half books are barely a short story so it seems a little odd to be charging a full credit for them. This felt like little more than a chapter that should be included in a larger book
