What did you like most about The Death of Lucy Kyte?

Nicola Upson leads you into the characters so well you start to want to know them more and more. Twists and Turns do not stray deeply away from the plot as some can but provide depth

Who was your favorite character and why?

Lucy Kyte as the narrative builds you begin to see the world as she did

Have you listened to any of Sandra Duncan’s other performances? How does this one compare?

Sandra Duncan is a reliable narrator you always feel you have read the book in your own voice.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Bit of laugh and cry with this one but always left feeling complete. Not cheated at the end of a book as you can be with some other books

    Any additional comments?

Have enjoyed all of Nicola Upsons books a good mystery not all blood and gore solid detective work with Josephine Upson

    Story
    "Slow Starter"

It is slow, but give it a chance and you'll quite like it.

A lady is left a cottage by her seldom visited godmother. There is a lot of history surrounding the site and its belongings, with possible supernatural consequences. If you like Barbara Erskine you'll like this.

    "Great but not perfect."
What made the experience of listening to The Death of Lucy Kyte the most enjoyable?

Not as good as Upsons previous Tey novels but a good one nevertheless. I like the long listen and the world building descriptions. This mystery may not be as fast paced or as exciting as the previous ones and it certainly feels contrived at times but it is still much better than a lot of the offerings around at the moment.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

Maybe more Archie. Continuing the Marta theme is a mistake as it didn't go down very well with Tey's family or fans as it isn't base on any kind of evidence. Can feel like the novel is descending into sentimentality at times.

What does Sandra Duncan bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

Great Narrator, brings warmth and feeling to the characters.

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

    The past never stays hidden.

"Slow,no dramatic tension, more soap than thriller"
What would have made The Death of Lucy Kyte better?

Making it clear early on that the death was suspicious.
Introducing an element of menace, putting the heroine at risk.
Adding some detecting to the story.
Getting rid of the ridiculous ghost story aspect.
