Publisher's summary

In this exciting sequel to the acclaimed Dead I Well May Be, the mercenary Michael Forsythe is forced to infiltrate an Irish terrorist cell, confronting murder, mayhem, and the prospect of his own execution.

Michael is on holiday in Spain when a soccer riot between the Paddies and the Brits escalates out of control and he winds up in a Spanish prison. Enter Samantha, a beautiful British Intelligence agent. She makes Michael an offer he can't refuse: instead of extradition to Mexico to serve time for a prison break, he can infiltrate an IRA sleeper cell in the United States. Thrust into the nightmare world of men known for their distinctive brands of torture and revenge, Michael crosses and double-crosses key players, narrowly escapes his own lies, loses his only ally, and falls for the daughter of his enemy.

Don't miss these other noir thrillers in the Michael Forsythe series: Dead I Well May Be (Unabridged) and The Bloomsday Dead (Unabridged).

Great book

Great writing and very entertaining. Very violent. Adrian McKinty is a very accomplished writer. I have listened to all of his books and loved them all.

Must Read

I must admit that that this great book caught me totally by surprise. I am a died-in-the-wool Michael Conelly fan who has been repreatedly disappointed in my efforts to find another crime-mystery novelist who is the equal. Well my wait is onver. Adrian McKinty is the real thing He is a captivating author and the narration is over the top spell-binding. If I could have rated this a "10" instad of a "5", I would have done so. I am now going to listen the other two books in this trilogy!!

How did I miss this author until now -

This is my second McKinty book and I have no idea how I missed him until now. But that error is now corrected. This is a great story, tight writing and a great performance - Bravo - S

Enough Already!!!!!

If you could sum up The Dead Yard in three words, what would they be?

Nonstop Violence once it gets started

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

No. I had to fast forward through some of the sequences.......I kept saying to myself....ok I get it enough already..........this audio book was about two hours too long.

Which character – as performed by Gerard Doyle – was your favorite?

Michael

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

A violent pulp fiction........

Any additional comments?

Not as good as the first in the series. But because I am invested in what happens to Michael, I wanted to know what happens next. Part two had too many implausible situations and unrelenting violence. If you have a credit or two that you don't mind losing, get the book. If you are saving credits, I would skip this one.

Great Second Installment

Have you listened to any of Gerard Doyle’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes...He's the real deal when it comes to Irish characters

Any additional comments?

As far as I know this is a three book series. I listened to the last first, then when I discovered this was the second I had started I decided just to go with it. Each book stands alone and you get enough information to know what came before. Each book is only connected, but not crucial to enjoy whatever book you're on.

Adrian Mckinty is becoming one of my favorite authors. His stories has many different layers to them and really create a theatre of the mind while going down the road. I'm not too sure they'd be quite as exciting without Gerard Doyal performing the books, but between the two these are fun to listen to....Chews up a lot of highway for this old trucker...

Another great Michael Forsythe Tale.

Michael Forsythe is pulled from witness protection to infiltrate the Cuchulain cell of American Irish whose goal is to stop the Irish Peace Talks in the late 1990's. Refuse and he will be sent back to Mexico to serve out his time in the prison from which he escaped. His British handler is Samantha who gives him this offer he can not refuse. The small cell is Jerry a died in the wool believer in his cause, Touched a sociopathic killer, Kit Jerry's beautiful, naive daughter her boyfriend Jackie and Jerry's wife. McKinty weaves a tale of intrigue, adventure, and romance. Will Michal be able to get out of a bad situation alive? Couldn't stop listening!

Almost

Excellent until the end. Just didn't realize you could drag out a story that much.

Not as good as the first, but still good.

I guess I was missing the witty dialog from the first book. Performance was still pretty good though. He should definitely work on his female voices. 😀

Enthralling!

Loved it! I was a little attached to Michael even before this book. lol... I can't wait to hear what's next from Adrian McKinty. As far as the narrator Gerald Doyle goes, he makes the books!!! I love his performance and his soothing voice. You want to listen to each new book in the progression just to hear more of Gerald's accent. Well done!
