Publisher's summary

The US Speaker of the House is assassinated in a terrifyingly precise execution in the heart of Washington, DC. In a quieter corner of the nation's capital, the rare book room of the Library of Congress, a reclusive, wealthy scholar drops dead under mysterious circumstances that leave no clues. Following on the heels of the natural death of the Speaker of the House, the city and the nation begin to tremble. In California, a beautiful but capable woman is planning and executing one of the most brilliant cons on record.

All the while, "Oliver Stone" and his quirky Camel Club stand by and observe as the genius of their collective perspective begins to connect the dots between these seemingly disparate events - and they realize they must act, and act quickly, before their country falls victim to a silent yet bloody coup.

Great story and vocal performance

The addition of Annabelle Conroy and Jerry Bagger really give the Camel Club series a new dimension and great character boost. The multiple voice performances are among the best I have heard. I really enjoyed the book and got more immersed in the characters. The eclectic cadre of characters of the Camel Club take whole new depth in this second installment and the main character Oliver Stone takes more depth and shape.

I almost gave up on the Camel Club series after the first book (which friends highly recommended to introduce me to Baldacci) but The Collectors had me ready to jump to book three, Stone Cold, when I finished.

Superb!

This is another excellent example of David Baldacci's work. He delivers in suspense and story line and the narration is excellent. I highly recommend it!

Book playing isses

The story line was good. Very interesting. However, the recording sounds like book was copied from a scratched CD. Also the person who was reading the story mispronounced several words. Very distracting, makes you stop listening to story.

A Great Sequel

I really enjoyed this book. This, the second installment in the Camel Club series, is well worth the listen. I was a bit surprised when I first heard the three different narrators, but when you get into it, it really works well. The narrators are excellent and the plot twists and turns are superb. "Oliver Stone" has become my new favorite super hero. He is calm, cool and very clever. I can't wait for the next installment. Buy it and LOVE IT!!!!!

A great premise for a series continues

I like this series - it's the first Baldacci I've ever read. I will say I liked the narration on the first one better than this one.

Quirky characters in unusual settings

An enjoyable book once you don't expect it to be real life.

I like the members of the Camel Club. Too bad they are not running Congress. Each member brings unique skills and foibles to make an entertaining whole.

I like that Baldacci is able to write an interesting book without explicit language or situations.

Thorougly enjoyable

Insult intelligence! It's only a story and a good one at that. The narration was wonderful, especially the female voice. This was the first book my son listened to and he was in awe and he usually likes SF. He wanted to listen to more books with 2 or 3 narrators. I would recommend this book to anyone that wants an enjoyable listen. I give this book 5 stars because it was worth a second listen on a long trip because of the humor and mystery.

I was a little disappointed by the long build up,

followed by a very quick wrap up. Annabelle 's story line was extraneous. I will wait for the next book and see if they get better.

Good listen

Where does The Collectors rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Pretty good story, easy listen.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Oliver Stone...cool cat. Reminded me of a young Clint Eastwood character in an older body.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes

Any additional comments?

The story felt incomplete - it would have been nice to know what happened between Annabelle and the Atlantic City mobster at that final confrontation. Did she and stone live together? Etc, etc...
