Publisher's summary

In Los Angeles in 1988, a 16-year-old girl disappeared from her home and was later found dead of a gunshot wound to the chest. The death appeared at first to be a suicide, but some of the evidence contradicted that scenario, and detectives came to believe this was in fact a murder. Despite a by-the-book investigation, no one was ever charged.

Now Detective Harry Bosch is back with the LAPD with the sole mission of closing unsolved cases, and this girl's death is the first he's given. A DNA match makes the case very much alive again, and it turns out to be anything but cold. The ripples from this death have destroyed at least two other lives, and everywhere he probes, Bosch finds hot grief, hot rage, and a bottomless well of betrayal and malice.

And it's not just the girl's family and friends whose lives Bosch is stirring up afresh. With each new development, Harry Bosch finds increasing resistance from within the police force itself. Old enemies are close at hand. Even as he pushes relentlessly to find the truth, Bosch has to wonder if this assignment was intended to be his last. Digging up the past may heal old wounds, or it may expose new, searing ones.

From the mind of the man GQ has called "the best mystery writer in the world", The Closers is a masterpiece of thriller writing that is as sharp and immediate as the greatest fiction.

Critic reviews

"In Connelly/Bosch's world, character, context, and procedure are what count, and once again the author proves a master at all....Connelly comes as close as anyone to being today's Dostoyevsky of crime literature, and this is one of his finest novels to date." ( Publishers Weekly)
"Harry sticks to his knitting and delivers a sharp, straightforward police procedural." ( The New York Times)

Wait....Is that Harry?

One night..... long before the Bosch series on Amazon....I was watching Blue Bloods, well more listening to it as I washed dishes and I hear a voice and think,
Who is that? It sounds like Harry!

I turned around to see who was speaking and there's Grandpa Regan.... but my mind is saying NO...that's Harry! I got my iPad and went looking for this book on Audible...found the narrator's name put it into IMDb...and WHAM..started laughing cuz at that point in time Lou was the latest voice of my beloved Harry!!

I wasn't fond of Lou as the narrator. I always felt he sounded to old for a guy like Harry and just not edgy enough. But Lou did a good job overall, so listening wasn't painful or enough to have me turn the book off.

If you are working backwards in the Bosch series, it might be a little disorienting to not hear Titus...but don't let that stop you from listening or at least grabbing any of the Bosch books. The books give you a raw, gritty history for Harry that time constraints just won't allow in the Amazon series.

Yes.......Titus IS Harry...but he wasn't always Harry and even without Titus' narration....it worth the time to listen to any of the Bosch books.

The Closers - Harry's return from retirement

I found this to be a very interesting book. I've listened to all of the Harry Bosch books up to this point.

Harry Bosch returns to the LAPD to work with unsolved cases and his old partner Kiz Ryder (unsure of spelling). In some ways Bosch and Ryder have to get used to working together again, and Bosch has to work some of the rust off from being retired. There are individuals above him in the LAPD that are watching to make sure he does everything by the book and some hope Bosch screws up in some way.

Bosch's first case is about an unsolved murder of a teenager from 1988. The case is reopened and there is a match to DNA. When Harry locates the parents he finds the mother really has not moved on and the father left the mother years ago. There are political coverups involved.

I love that Bosch's character is very detailed, catching oversights or mistakes made by others. Connelly does a good job of having Bosch explain everything instead of assuming you know the investigation process.

The narrator was ok, better for some characters than others.

Bonus Bosch.

Bosch comes back to LAPD, a heartfelt story about the victims beyond the victim, and about justice. Then an interview with the author himself, which is worth the price, then the first chapter of the next book. Like I said, BONUS!

Bosch is back!

I have yet to read all of the Harry Bosch series, but with the handful I've read, I would say that this book ranks right up there. Connelly is a well-researched author, and that's what makes these stories so believable. With this book, I felt like I was on a long ride-along with the detectives. The details were superb and the emotions palpable. I enjoyed this book very much, and I LOVE the title. I know, it's sort of silly to say anything about a title, but it's more than that because that's what Harry has become - a "closer". I think this leaves hundreds of possibilities, and I can't wait for the next one.

I love these Bosch novels

I love listening to these when I'm driving, they don't distract me like music does. I find it hard to wait to get back in the car so I can listen again.

Glad to have a great narrator, again!

In the first few books of this series, there was a wonderful narrator that made me fall in love with each Harry Bosch book. Then, it all changed. He wasn't there- there were some other narrators that couldn't quite hold a candle to the first guy. But now, they have gotten back on track with another great narrator! This series is one that I will come back to! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
