Publisher's summary

There are millions of stories in the city - some magical, some tragic, others terror-filled or triumphant. Jonah Kirk’s story is all of those things as he draws listeners into his life in the city as a young boy, introducing his indomitable grandfather, also a "piano man"; his single mother, a struggling singer; and the heroes, villains, and everyday saints and sinners who make up the fabric of the metropolis in which they live - and who will change the course of Jonah’s life forever.

Welcome to The City, a place of evergreen dreams where enchantment and malice entwine, where courage and honor are found in the most unexpected corners and the way forward lies buried deep inside the heart.

Hit the Spot

I read some of the lukewarm reviews of this book, and I guess those reviewers must not be musicians, or not my age, or not at my stage of life, or not very spiritual maybe. For whatever reason, the story did not touch them the way it did me.
I have read and enjoyed several of Dean Koontz’s novels, but this one just hit the spot. It was exactly what I wanted at this time, and after listening to the audio book, I plan to buy the book and read it in a non-digital format.
I loved the historical references, the music history and the imagery of the city personified.

Very Nice!!

Koontz has done it again! I don’t have time to actually read much but this book was great to listen to while driving. I look forward to reading more of Koontz’s novels!!

One of his best

I loved this story so much!! Very different than most of his other books, but so rich with his talent and love for telling the story, More than just fulfilling the excellent and expected genre submission.

Excellent

Best Narrator performance of any story on Audible that I have enjoyed to date. Story would not be same without talented performance

A little slow

I was hoping for a break from epic novels and was hoping for a good story with either sci-fi or horror and this was a bit of a letdown. I have enjoyed other books by Dean Koontz, such as "from the corner of his eyes", but this did not live up to those.

Good book that you can't put down

Would you listen to The City again? Why?

This is not the scary Dean Koontz, but very good also. More on the lines of Odd. Had a nice history of black civil rights running in the back ground.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The City?

I loved the Japanese man, you always knew he was more than he appeared.

Not up to his standards for a "good " story.

Interesting fluff but too long to waste your time on. If you like his earlier stuff don't bother with this. Best part was the narrator and he was just so-so.
