"My First Tesla Book but Not My Last!"
Would you consider the audio edition of The Chemistry of Death to be better than the print version?

I have only heard the audio version but thought it was well done. I have not read the print version.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I liked Joe Tesla even with his "flaws" it makes him a some what vulnerable hero which is a nice change from the indestructible super hero's that grace many books now a days.

What does Jeffrey Kafer bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I have listened to quite a few books with Jeffrey Kafer as of late and never get tired of hearing his voice. He does characters quite well and is never garbled or hard to understand.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The ending, I don't know if there were hints in the other Tesla books but I really didn't figure out who the bad guy was tell almost the very end. I will go back and listen to the first two Tesla books because I found this one so enjoyable.

    "The wind-up."

Good story development. Somewhat unpredictable until the end , as it should. I tend to rate authors in different ways for different genres. This type, by how well the story ends the different roles of the different characters. This was done well, with the proper treatment of each. Enjoyed the listening, had to go back and hear parts that were missed in sleep - which is something I only do with books I truly care about. Thus, the 5 star rating !

    Story
"Joe and Edison take on a Serial Killer! Turf War!"
What made the experience of listening to The Chemistry of Death the most enjoyable?

Joe Tesla, Edison, Vivian Torres. The tunnels beneath Manhatten and the almost self sufficient "mansion" in which Joe lives and works

Who was your favorite character and why?

Joe as Male Lead. Vivian Torres as strong Female. And Edison as a kind of Robin, Mr. Spock and Lassie rolled into one great sidekick. Joe and the other characters are almost (not quite) supporting actors!

What does Jeffrey Kafer bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Jeffrey is an excellent choice to bring these stories (the Joe Tesla Series) to life on the Audible Editions. Again, clear, easily understood, easy on my old tired ears!

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Joe and Edison pitted against the serial killer who also claims the subterranean reaches that Tesla clings to for his sanity. I felt the anxiety that the main character felt, the fear and confusion of the murdered victims. The sinister aspects of the Killer AKA Ziggy. Who is this killer? And what is his connection with Joe Tesla?

    Any additional comments?

Each book in this series by Rebecca Cantrell keeps getting better and better. I understand a Book Four will be out soon. Can't wait!

    "Great ending to the series"
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes I would, in fact the entire trilogy.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes and once I did. Read the book three times. Very good.

    Any additional comments?

I read this three times and still enjoy every minute of the story, narration, the genius of Joe, the greatness of Edison, each of the supporting characters (especially Viv), and the mystery of this and the previous two books. I will miss Joe and company as each character was pretty well built up and within the story itself there were many moments of humor as well as the necessary suspense, sadness and thrill. This is one of those mystery books that will last, so don't hesitate to start reading.

I was gifted this book by the author and Audible.com for a fair and honest review which I have given. Thank you and best wishes on your new endeavors.

The Chemistry of Death By Rebecca Cantrell Narrated by Jeffery Kafer March 17th 2016
This is the third installment of the Joe Tesla Series.
Joe is a brilliant man and his Synesthesia was never a hindrance to him however the Agoraphobia has proved to be a big stumbling block but he wouldn't let it stop him from his many endeavors. Edison is his service dog who helps him investigate what ever job he is on at the time. He has been an undeniable asset, not only for Joe's well being but a great detective’s partner. Edison saves Joe’s life in this book.
Joe Tesla is on the trail of a serial killer who is killing women in the forgotten tunnels of the New York subway system. his particular Serial killer favors a very expensive Christian Dior lipstick Red 999. After a little digging done by Joe’s body guard Vivian a strong confident and smart women they found out there had been Ten similar deaths in the tunnels and all the victims had similar features.
At a point in the investigation Joe became the obsession of the “Silver -tongued killer”.
Joe Tesla was also working on his brain mapping data base for his new company LUCA
when his inner- sanctum the house under Grand Central Station in the underground subway tunnels were breached by a depraved killer his every sense was heightened.
During this story he was also closing in on who had poisoned him and caused his agoraphobia.
I loved the rich and vibrant world Rebecca Cantrell had created. It is very colorful and suspenseful. The Hero Joe is not only working with one affliction but his struggles help to give him a full 360 degree personality. All of her characters are full and deep. Jeffery Kafer did a brilliant job at narrating this story.

    "Twisted minds"
Would you listen to The Chemistry of Death again? Why?

Yes, so many twists and turns that you would follow them better the second time around.

What other book might you compare The Chemistry of Death to and why?

    Can't think of any.

Which character – as performed by Jeffrey Kafer – was your favorite?

The killer. We can relate how he doesn't see himself as the perpetrator but that others use their "free will."

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When the sister is willing to trade her life for Tesla's.

    Story
"Fantastic thriller set in NYC's subway tunnels!"
    Any additional comments?

I highly recommend this audiobook and the entire Joe Tesla series! Rebecca Cantrell is one of my favorite authors and this book is a great example of why. The Chemistry of Death takes off from the beginning in an adrenaline induced fashion and the story keeps you on the edge of your seat until the very end. I honestly had no idea who the killer was until the big reveal! Rebecca's writing style is very similar to two other authors that I enjoy, Steve Berry and James Rollins. But, I prefer these Joe Tesla books to any of the Cotton Malone or Sigma Force stories because Joe Tesla is so downright likable. Who can't help but enjoy reading about a tortured hero who, despite being poisoned and an extreme agoraphobic, is a master at solving crimes with his canine companion, Edison, and his part-time investigator, Vivian, in the bowels of New York City's subway?

In The Chemistry of Death, Joe and Edison stumble upon a buried designer purse and a few tubes of Chanel lipstick in an old closeted room in the subway. Not relying on the police's theory of "a rat buried the purse," Joe hires Vivian to investigate. (I really love the slow developing platonic relationship between these two). It turns out that the purse belonged to a successful business woman who allegedly committed suicide 10 years ago by jumping in front of a subway train. After looking into the death more closely, Vivian doesn't believe for an instant that this strong career woman committed suicide. While still investigating this murder, another suicide under eerily similar circumstances is observed, and Joe and Vivian uncover a serial killer who has a pattern of killing women over a number of years. Unbeknownst to Joe, the killer is extremely unhappy that Joe uncovered his treasures and is now set upon killing him. The rest of the story is figuring out who the killer is, why does the serial killer want to harm Joe - really, and whether Joe and Vivian can prevent the serial killer from killing again.

Jeffrey Kafer narrated this Audible version of the story and he did an outstanding job like he did with the other books in the series. This is my favorite of the three Joe Tesla books, in part, because Jeffrey's narration made me feel like I was watching a movie rather than merely listening to a book. Please tell me this is not the conclusion of a trilogy and there are many more books to come in the Joe Tesla series!

    "Joe is a great character."
What did you love best about The Chemistry of Death?

The twist was really good. I jumped back and forth trying to guess who the killer was.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Joe, because he is such a damaged man and he still manages to get the job done.

Which character – as performed by Jeffrey Kafer – was your favorite?

Jeffrey Kafer always does a great job. Can't really decide which is my favorite in the Joe Tesla series.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

    The whole book was great.

"A great character in a fair plot."

"This audiobook was provided by the author, narrator, or publisher at no cost in exchange for an unbiased review courtesy of Audiobook Blast."

Joe Tesla is an interesting character and overshadows the antagonist. I believe that if it weren't for Tesla's psychological and physical problems the killer would have been rapidly caught. I would have preferred a more menacing antagonist, he just didn't disturb me much. Also, Tesla's OCD with numbers and colors got annoying and hindered the flow of the narration. Maybe it is less annoying in the book format, I listened to the audiobook and didn't like that color names popped up after every spoken number. I felt cheated when the antagonist's identity was revealed at the very end with absolutely no way for the reader to have figured it out. I still love the Joe Tesla character though and would love to read about more of his adventures, maybe I just didn't start with the best one.
