In this gripping thriller, an ex-agent on the run from her former employers must take one more case to clear her name and save her life.
She used to work for the US government, but very few people ever knew that. An expert in her field, she was one of the darkest secrets of an agency so clandestine it doesn't even have a name. And when they decided she was a liability, they came for her without warning.
Now she rarely stays in the same place or uses the same name for long. They've killed the only other person she trusted, but something she knows still poses a threat. They want her dead, and soon.
When her former handler offers her a way out, she realises it's her only chance to erase the giant target on her back. But it means taking one last job for her ex-employers. To her horror, the information she acquires only makes her situation more dangerous.
Resolving to meet the threat head-on, she prepares for the toughest fight of her life but finds herself falling for a man who can only complicate her likelihood of survival. As she sees her choices being rapidly whittled down, she must apply her unique talents in ways she never dreamed of.
In this tautly plotted novel, Meyer creates a fierce and fascinating new heroine with a very specialised skill set. And she shows once again why she's one of the world's best-selling authors.

The story and the performance wer excellent
Alex, the Chemist. Her character is very well built
I suffered with her when she thought Daniel was dead
I really hope Stephenie Meyer will make a "serial thriller" of it
"Held my attention and amazing characters"
I loved this book. I am Stephenie Meyer fan and my favourite book is the Host. I was expecting this book to be the 2nd in the series (the seeker) but i'm not disappointed as this is a great book.
This book has no supernatural element to it but has three great characters that I couldn't get enough of. The lead role is female and she is a strong character who can look after her self from the very start of the book! There are so many great scenes where she kicks ass of strong male characters which is fab. There is of course a love story of course but it isn't the main focus of the story :)
I love the way Stephanie writes as the story flows well, very catchy and characters you feel for very quickly. Give it a go!
Simply awful. Please do not waste a credit on this book. The narration was coma inducing. I nearly quit several times but it isn't in my nature to.
"Twilight all grown up and really worth the read"
I loved this audio it was well written and read. I am a massive fan of the twilight saga and simply read this book due to that but the Chemist is so much more than I expected and the suspense is so good at times its painful.
"Not for veterans of the "Thriller genre."
Perhaps a good book for younger readers or those just beginning their foray into the world of "thrillers". The blurb led me to expect more intrigue and depth than this story delivered and I feel that "young adult fiction" should be a sub-heading. The narrator is clearly very talented (excellent male character voices, I thought) and would be well-suited to a range of performances, however in this case, she invested no drama or tension into the story-telling, which for me, detracted from any sense of suspense or involvement. I stuck with it to the end in case something happened to redeem this book but unfortunately it didn't. Just not for me I suppose and I'd be delighted if I could write nearly as well as this author, however this misses the mark in my opinion, for what that's worth as a non-author.
"Edge of the seat thriller"
I couldn't put this book down. The main character is an ex government employee, an interrogator, who has to go on the run when the government decides to eliminate her. There is some romance, and plenty of James Bond style action. If you have read Stephenie Meyer's previous books, this one is very different in that there is nothing supernatural about it, but there are hints of the The Host in there nevertheless. The characters are brilliantly developed, as is the plot line, and there is never a dull moment. The narrator does a brilliant job of bringing the characters to life. Highly recommended to anyone.
I'd have to say that Alex was my favourite because of the things she can do, but come on! Those dogs are amazing!
Hold Your Breath
Ok I really liked this book but I have one or two problems with it though:
First Daniel's character is completely wrong! Ok he's great in the book and a decent character, but come on! Why did he have to be such a puppy dog all the time? I know the hero in this book is a woman, but why make the man seem like such a doosh? He clings onto her like too much! I mean if I was in his situation, I'd catch on pretty fast that nothing is normal anymore, but he just does not get it! My second problem is I reckon there could've been a bit more to this book. Don't get me wrong, this is a great story, but I think there could be at least one or two more books to this one, because you can do so much with Alex's character. All the problems aside, I definitely think this book is worth a credit
Very good performance. And, an unusual thing for me, I really enjoyed the romantic parts. I would probably shorten them a little, though. Anyway, this book will appeal
rather to women. A good thriller, many twists of action, lots of humour, mainly thanks to the Kevin character. Daniel is too good to be true, but this is necessary for the romance.
Val is fun, Alex is original. I had nice time with this book.
"Excellent Narration makes a second rate book good"
Predictable and text drones on. Animated excellent narration redeems this.
Will look at reviews first. 'The Chemist' was not unenjoyable rather easy listening /reading.
Very good. If I was just reading on kindle I would have given up in boredom
Yes the 'action' was fun if not 'silly unbelievable tosh'
Get this for a long car journey when you need to concentrate on the road not the audio book. You can enjoy it and not worry about missing details - they don't matter . She could have missed out 200 pages an improve the book
The story was gripping and well presented. I hope Lola had a good life too.
This was a brilliant read, really unexpected story line.
I loved The Host and Twilight series and although this was completely different, it did not disappoint.
