Editorial reviews

When widower Jillian Hart comes home from a quilting show to find one of her three beloved cats missing, her staid life as a quiet pet owner and competitive quilter is thrown totally out of whack, especially as she strongly suspects foul play....

Vanessa Johansson brings great warmth to her unabridged performance of Leann Sweeney's The Cat, the Quilt, and the Corpse: A Cats in Trouble Mystery, managing to perfectly balance lighter comedic moments with a strong emotional storyline, as Hart investigates her own cat's disappearance, uncovering further mysteries as she goes. Johansson gracefully accentuates the tension and drama of Jillian's descent into a criminal underworld, in which catnapping pales in comparison to a far worse crime...murder.

Publisher's summary

Recently widowed Jillian Hart is rebuilding a life for herself and her three beloved cats - Chablis, Syrah, and Merlot - as a quilter in a small South Carolina town. The quilts she makes are for cats as smart, special, and sweet as her own, and business is thriving.

But when she returns from an overnight quilting show, she discovers Chablis sneezing - and since Chablis is allergic to humans, that can only mean one thing: Someone has broken into her house. When she realizes her Abyssinian, Syrah, is missing, Jillian suspects catnapping.

Spurred by Chablis and Merlot’s mournful meowing, she investigates - and discovers more missing cats and a murder. Now she’s got to save more than one cat in trouble - not to mention herself.

YES, ANOTHER CAT COZY BUT SO WORTH THE READ

I REALLY ENJOYED MEETING JILLIAN, CANDACE, TOM, AND OTHERS, ALONG WITH MERLOT, CHABLIS, AND SZIRAH. VANESSA UD AN EXCELLENT NARRATOR. SHE PUT THE APPROPTIATE EMOTION INTO THE NARRATION, AND HER VOICE IS PLEASANT AND MELODIC. ALL IN ALL A WONDERFUL READ. I AM ON TO BOOK 2.

Great Series for Us Cat Lovers 😻

Widow Jillian Hart has her hands full making small quilts for rescued and other loved cats in her new home of Mercy, South Carolina, when someone breaks into her home and steals one of her cats! She can't seem to convince the small town police chief that anyone would really want to steal a cat, so she is forced to look into the matter herself. And when she does she unravels quite the tale of small town folks, which will make you laugh . . . and make you cry. The personalities are weird, warm, eccentric . . . and well just what you want in a cozy mystery. Jillian makes friends along the way, and I look forward to hearing what they get up to in the next book. Excellent conclusion to the mystery!

Too bad about the reader

If it weren't for the overly saccharine, wannabe actress, I might have given this mediocre book three stars, but with my teeth aching from listening to her, I just can't do it!

Don't waste your time and money

Too frustrated to spend time describing how empty the story, characters, and reader's voice left me only after the first 30 minutes. Stuck with it until 2 hours before the finish. Just not worth finding out "who did it"!

Tedious

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

Cat lovers

What do you think your next listen will be?

Nora Roberts book

How could the performance have been better?

The narration needed to be faster paced and the voice less shrill.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

Not really.

Any additional comments?

Book took too long to come to a weak conclusion.

Will not continue series

Any additional comments?

Since I did finish the book and marginally enjoyed the story, it is probably not fair to return it, I got this from the first 2 of a series sale. Glad I didn't buy the second or I would be returning it. even as a cat lover, this was just a little too cute. The drama wasn't and the narrator's voice just a little annoying.
