INSPIRATION FOR THE ORIGINAL SERIES THE LINCOLN LAWYER—THE #1 TV SHOW ON NETFLIX

Defense attorney Mickey Haller and Detective Harry Bosch must either work together or die as they investigate a Hollywood lawyer's murder in this "epic page-turner" (Library Journal).

Things are finally looking up for defense attorney Mickey Haller. After two years of wrong turns, Haller is back in the courtroom. When Hollywood lawyer Jerry Vincent is murdered, Haller inherits his biggest case yet: the defense of Walter Elliott, a prominent studio executive accused of murdering his wife and her lover. But as Haller prepares for the case that could launch him into the big time, he learns that Vincent's killer may be coming for him next.

Enter Harry Bosch. Determined to find Vincent's killer, he is not opposed to using Haller as bait. But as danger mounts and the stakes rise, these two loners realize their only choice is to work together.

Critic reviews

"The Brass Verdict has the sneaky metabolism of any Connelly book. It starts slowly, moves calmly, hides pertinent bits of information in plain sight and then abruptly ratchets up its energy for the denouement....In the midst of this new story, Mickey rebounds with a vengeance....Like Harry Bosch's mojo, Mickey Haller's is liable to work well for a long time."—Janet Maslin, New York Times
"Connelly is firing on all cylinders in this epic page-turner. The intriguing story line, the chance to view Bosch from another perspective, and Haller's reappearance as a main character add up to a fantastic read. One of the best thrillers of the year."—Jeff Ayers, Library Journal
"The answer to every Connelly fan's dream: Hieronymus Bosch meets the Lincoln Lawyer....By turns wary, competitive, complementary, cooperative and mutually predatory....Connelly brings his two sleuths together in a way that honors them both"—Kirkus Reviews

another hit for Michael Connelly

I love Michael Connelly's books, they have good plots, good characters and keep me entertained. Nothing too deep here but good listening for a car ride or exercise!

We'll done

Another Mickey Haller story beautifully narrated by Peter Giles. Giles is Mickey Haller for me. I'm intrigued by the workings of a defence lawyer, and Connelly seems to provide some insight into how the defence prepares their cases. I know this is fiction, but it is well written.
Haller is a flawed character, but has a conscience and makes a good argument for his clients, guilty though they appear to be. He is surrounded by good friends who help him with his cases.
He is the Lincoln lawyer with baggage which makes for an excellent story.

The Plot Shifts

The Brass Verdict kept me guessing from beginning to end. Just when I thought I had it all figured out, the plot shifted. The narrator was excellent as he guided me through the changes in the plot's direction. Thanks for a totally entrancing journey!

Mickey Rocks again ! - Action packed Thriller

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Book 2 of the Mickey Haller, Lincoln Lawyer series really rocks and continues what was a great start. Once again a high profile case brings our Mickey out of self imposed retirement. It starts hot and never lets up. The cast of characters is great with the first entry of Bosch and a great spin all the way to the end. Do you yourself a favor - just get it !

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Fast moving with twists and thrills

Have you listened to any of Peter Giles’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No - but this was great

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Ready, set and ... Action !

Any additional comments?

Just a consistantly rich story with great characters, legal court room drama and constant surprises to keep you on the edge of you (car) seat !

Great book but it was not about Harry Bosch

I've been reading the Harry Bosch series and trying to keep them and linked stories in order. So when I finish the Overlook and noted the Brass Verdict was next I also noted Attorney Micky Haller was a character. To stay on track I took the time to listen to Lincoln Lawyer first. Lincoln Lawyer introduces and was only about Mickey Haller. Great book and Haller is an exciting new character. The Brass Verdict was also primarily about Mickey Haller with a peppering of Harry in key parts of the book to spice up and move the plot along. Connelly did that very well right up to the end when Mickey and Harry finally admit they are half brothers. It was a great scene that leaves you wanting more. Outside of that all three books were exciting, intertwined and fun to listen to. I expect Connelly will focus more on Haller as time goes on as Haller is much younger. That said, I hope there are additional stories giving both equal billing. Haller is smarter, more sensitive, has more stable relationships and really wants his marriage to work. Sex is just not all that important to him unless it's with his first wife mother of his daughter. Bosch is a cunning and aging cynic but a true believer in his calling as a homicide detective. Though hidden, he shares many of Haller's traits of compassion particularly for victims in the lowest levels of society. Bosch has been less discriminating when it comes to his love affairs and seems particularly malleable when it involves the wiles of FBI Agent Rachel Walling who would have been fired from the FBI years before hadn't she been a woman. I believe Harry's real dream in life is to have a family with his estranged wife Eleanor Wish, and their daughter, the existence of whom Eleanor hide from Harry for four years. Maybe we will see family building as time goes on.

Great Book!

The book was fantastic, but the narrator was the worst I've ever listened to. Buy the book or get it from your local library, but definitely don't LISTEN to it. I'm surprised nobody else mentioned this horrible narrator.

Great book, superb narration

It is hard to follow all the knocks on Peter Giles. He was a superb narrator, and his voice inflections were pitch perfect for conveying the Mickey Haller character. Sure, give me Dick Hill or Len Cariou for Harry Bosch, but they wouldn't do this flawed attorney the way Giles did. This was a great story, and the subtleties in all of the courtroom and strategy sessions were believable and easy to follow. Many twists and turns, and since I live in Malibu the local storylines were all the more interesting. Music bars dropped in usually annoy me, but they were well done here.

Good but not as good as the Lincoln Lawyer

It was a good read and a good story. I kinda figured out the twist, but I may have had a lucky guess. It was not as good as the Lincoln Lawyer and I felt like Micky got soft. But that probably happens if you get shot.
