INSPIRATION FOR THE ORIGINAL SERIES THE LINCOLN LAWYER—THE #1 TV SHOW ON NETFLIX

Defense attorney Mickey Haller and Detective Harry Bosch must either work together or die as they investigate a Hollywood lawyer's murder in this "epic page-turner" (Library Journal).

Things are finally looking up for defense attorney Mickey Haller. After two years of wrong turns, Haller is back in the courtroom. When Hollywood lawyer Jerry Vincent is murdered, Haller inherits his biggest case yet: the defense of Walter Elliott, a prominent studio executive accused of murdering his wife and her lover. But as Haller prepares for the case that could launch him into the big time, he learns that Vincent's killer may be coming for him next.

Enter Harry Bosch. Determined to find Vincent's killer, he is not opposed to using Haller as bait. But as danger mounts and the stakes rise, these two loners realize their only choice is to work together.

Critic reviews

"The Brass Verdict has the sneaky metabolism of any Connelly book. It starts slowly, moves calmly, hides pertinent bits of information in plain sight and then abruptly ratchets up its energy for the denouement....In the midst of this new story, Mickey rebounds with a vengeance....Like Harry Bosch's mojo, Mickey Haller's is liable to work well for a long time."—Janet Maslin, New York Times
"Connelly is firing on all cylinders in this epic page-turner. The intriguing story line, the chance to view Bosch from another perspective, and Haller's reappearance as a main character add up to a fantastic read. One of the best thrillers of the year."—Jeff Ayers, Library Journal
"The answer to every Connelly fan's dream: Hieronymus Bosch meets the Lincoln Lawyer....By turns wary, competitive, complementary, cooperative and mutually predatory....Connelly brings his two sleuths together in a way that honors them both"—Kirkus Reviews

Good story telling

Would you listen to The Brass Verdict again? Why?

No. These books always have a "twist" so knowing the twist makes the story not as interesting.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Not sure this is an "edge of your seat" but it is told well. I like the way everything is so easy to follow.

Which scene was your favorite?

The last scene when the defendant things everything is going great.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Defendants always lie!

Strong, fast-moving plot.

Book and narration are excellent. My only criticism is the random, arbitrary music that appears out of nowhere. It is annoying and distracting. But the book is definitely worth the read.

Good story, poor narrator

The first book, The Lincoln Lawyer , was narrated by Peter Grupper. he was very good. expressive and enough change in voices to tell the characters apart. Giles lacks expression, makes all characters sound very alike. Does barely more than read it. Unfortunately the rest of this series, which I like, is narrated by him. Brings the whole book down. I'm still reading the series a second time, though and still recommend it.

Really liking Michael Connelly

This is only my second book by Michael Connelly but I am really liking his quart room drama series. The brass verdict kept me interested in wanting to keep reading. I would definitely recommend for those that like this type of storyline.

One of my favorite writers

This is not much of a review because I didn't get to finish the book. I was spellbound by it, but I didn't get past the sixth chapter because I forgot to set the timer and fell asleep, and the book finished during the night. I can't get back to where I can listen to the rest of it! I wish I could give a decent review of it, but apparently I have to read the book before I can manage to find a way to get back to it so I can read it!

Great Courtroom stuff

Fantastic book. I was worried that Connelly might stick too close to the plot line pattern of his last Mickey Haller book, but he did not. So it wasn't predictable, but yet you could follow it well enough to figure things out as the characters figured them out.

I liked Haller more in the first book than this one, but it's a minor issue. In my opinion, his character should be a little "tougher" than he was in this one, but again, that's my very subjective view and a minor one at that.

Current Favorite

I've been struggling to find a good book...anything that doesn't want me to get a refund, or spend it's time saying "oRAnGe mAn, BaD". I thoroughly enjoyed this novel. I didn't start with the first book, as I feel like the movie would have ruined it for me. This was the first book I actually finished in months, with most having to just be stopped due to horrible writing and or narration. I am becoming a fan of the genre, and the characters in this book and happy I have some more to indulge in. I've already started book 3, and am enjoying it as much as this one. Greatest novel ever? Nope. Entertaining, well performed and with likable characters...absolutely.

Best legal thriller ever

As an attorney that tries murder cases, I found this to be the best book I’ve come across on this genre. It was like prepping and trying a card of my own. Much of the tactics and questioning was spot on. If yiu want to know what it’s like to try a case - this is it.
